Just because you disagree with the person in office doesn't mean you can say we're closer to being a third world country, thats just absurd. Look at the average living conditions of a person in a third world country, now look at the suburbs, now third world, and now back to the suburbs. Now, tell me that we are closer to becoming a third world country.

Because the United States is FAR from being or becoming a 3rd world country, even if you don't like the guy in the White House, or his policies.

I just LOVE how the right is full of patriotic rehtoric, and how we can take on the world, and how great we are, and how indominable we are.....[insert Lee Greewood song]....Yet, at the same time, we're dangling over the precipice of ruination, and we're becoming a 3rd world country.....blah..blah..blah.

    Well. which is it?

Oh, and show of hands: How many people here have actually BEEN in a 3rd world country (no, not Mexico) and have seen what that actually means??

Yes. We've been on that path since Ronald Reagan took office. His policies set us on the downward spiral toward third world status that we've been on ever since. It isn't an issue of right or left, Republican or Democrat, Tea Party or Libertarian, it's the result that we've never been presented with a choice other than Corporatism since the Gipper held the office.

No it's just a serious recession not the end of America as we know it please..... also the recession started before he took office, it was the TARP and the Recovery and Re-investment stimulus spending which prevented us from having a full blown depression. Unlike most of Bush's presidency Obama had to spend like he did in an attempt to stimulate the economy since the private sector was contracting.

The US is closer to becoming a third world country since Perry declared his candidacy. And if you right wing extremists elect one of these dominionist lunes, there will be civil war.

By definition the U.S. won't be a Third World country because we've already set the standard for the First World. BUT lots of other countries in the First and Second Worlds are better positioned to pass us thanks to Obama, and we're going to lose our position as #1 sooner rather than later. [Actually, I think they're better positioned thanks to Bernanke, but Obama reappointed him so now he owns Ben's mistakes.]

You don't think we are any closer? WHICH direction do you think our country has been headed that caused my house to be worth less than half as much when BO took office, or for almost twice as many citizens to become jobless, or for our National Debt to almost double, etc.?

That's not closer to the Third World imo. Third World countries are trying to get paved roads, electric power, enough food for all citizens, etc. -- things we take for granted and have done for a very long time.

I certainly agree that the direction we've been going in is DOWN. But we've been so far above every other nation in the world for a long time, so down just puts us more on a par, not below anyone else.

To be fair, the housing bubble burst way before O. took office, and a lot of what has happened since then was considered inevitable once that happened. I'm NOT making excuses for him, but I think his mistakes need to be in perspective relative to every other politician's mistakes.

Obama shouldn't be to blame for all this, he has had a lot help from the GOP and so-called tea party and for not being smart enough to know how they have tied him up. (Stupidity rules the world and we can see it first handed)!

Not much from that side. Most "help" with his schemes came from Harry Reid and others of the kool-aid persuasion.

Actually, it's former president Bush who is to blame (mostly) for that, but Obama hasn't done much to stop the spiral and Bush wouldn't have been able to do what he did if Reagan hadn't neutered the American worker and set us up for selling our soul to China.

P.S. Your reading comprehension leaves something to be desired. I didn't say we are already a 3rd World Country, as you intimated. I asked, is the U.S. CLOSER toward becoming one!

You really don't think we are any closer? WHICH direction do you think our country has been headed that caused my house to be worth less than half as much when BO took office, or for almost twice as many citizens to become jobless, or for our National Debt to almost double, etc.?

My reading comprehension is just fine. I wonder what your definition of a third world country is? No... I don't think we are any closer.

Are you really going to blame President Obama for your house? Because if memory and facts serve me right, and they do, the housing market began to crash in 2006-2007, long long before he was in office.

If anything President Obama helped stave off people losing their houses. I know his home modification program helped me and it seems he is trying to do something about the joblessness too, but the divisiveness in congress is not helping matters.

You want solutions? We need to quit fighting each other and work together.

Obama is just one man. He doesn't make the rules. He just follows them. We still have running water, electricity and a host of other things 3rd world countries do not have. To say we are anywhere near 3rd world is ludicrous. When the Nike sweat shops start popping up then we can say we are 3rd world.
