Is the Republican ticket hostile to women's rights?

bob 2012/08/20 15:05:45
Republicans are trying to take Women back to the Dark Ages
GOP Rep. Todd Akin says victims of legitimate rape don’t get pregnant because the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. So Todd Akin failed biology in school.
The old White Republican Fogies (Men) has tried over and over again to redefine rape
Paul Ryan’s new slogan to Women "Choose me, lose choice."
Paul Ryan’s want women raped while in service to find a back alley to have their abortion rather than a military hospital
Ryan would ban abortions even in cases of rape and incest and had sponsored a bill that would outlaw some forms of birth control.

Its not hostile to women's rights. The "war on women" is just another manufactured debate designed to divide people and to paint Romney/Repuplicans as anti-women's rights. Its all just media spin and false narratives.

At least there will be some serious consequeses to pay if you go have one. It's easy now but if it's not easy that might triger people to use protection more often.

yeah, then your possibly going to have these same people try to ban birth control. telling a person not to have sex isn't going to stop them and might even led to going back to chastity belts.

You got that right! Not even chasity belts can stop people from having sex if they are intent on doing it. I think it is a very stupid, stupid idea to ban birth control, there are even alot of established married people who use birth control. You are right, you can't ban birth control and abortion, abortion is the only one that should be banned.

Republicans are nice, normal people, a lot like a few Democrats.(just a few) We have our opinions. (mine are always right) We are more concerned with the rights of everyone, including women, than the lib's are. And more fair about everything else. Remember, it was the Republicans who freed the slaves. (OH, GOD NO...NOT THE SLAVE THING AGAIN)
No, we are very fair. I want Akin to stay in,-he has a right to his opinion, and Ryan and Romney are both fair minded people. For me, I think abortion would be okay if the woman's life is threatened and in cases of incest and force-able rape.
Otherwise, keep your legs together if you don't want to get pregnant. You people, sex won't go away of you decide to wait for true love with a lifetime commitment or marriage. (one man + one woman).

    Freind's Rape-pregnancy Theory Refuted
March 23, 1988|By JOHN M. BAER, Daily News Staff Writer

HARRISBURG — The odds that a woman who is raped will get pregnant are "one in millions and millions and millions," said state Rep. Stephen Freind, R-Delaware County, the Legislature's leading abortion foe.

The reason, Freind said, is that the traumatic experience of rape causes a woman to "secrete a certain secretion" that tends to kill sperm.

Two Philadelphia doctors specializing in human reproduction characterized Freind's contention as scientifically baseless.

Freind made the statement on a central Pennsylvania radio interview program earlier this month.

Freind, who has been trying for years to get strong anti-abortion laws through the Legislature, said yesterday that he's standing by his claim and will provide medical documentation to support it in about a week.

At a news conference on sex education on the Capitol steps, he told a cheering crowd, "If you're expecting me to back off, the answer is no."

Freind's comments came to light late last week. They originally were broadcast by Hanover radio station WHVR on March 1.

In an abortion debate with Barry Steinhardt of the American Civil Liberties Union, Freind said, according to transcripts: "It is almost but not quite impossible to become pregnant on the basis of rape. The odds are one in millions and millions and millions. And there is a physical reason for that.

"Rape, obviously, is a traumatic experience. When that traumatic experience is undergone, a woman secretes a certain secretion, which has a tendency to kill sperm."

Informed of Freind's remarks, Dr. Luigi Mastroianni Jr., director of the division of human reproduction at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, said yesterday: "Boy, if I could find out what that (secretion) was, I'd use it as a contraceptive."

Mastroianni, who is also a past president of the American Fertility Society, added, "There is no such secretion."

He said Freind's statements were "scientifically unfounded" and "reflect a lack of concern for women who have been victimized by rape" by dismissing the act as not having consequence.

Dr. Richard Depp, chairman of the department of obstetrics and Gynecology at Thomas Jefferson University, said, "The only reality is that women get pregnant when they are ovulating."

He said of Freind's claim, "There's no basis for that. That's nonsense."

Both Mastroianni and Depp said women who are raped can and do become pregnant.

Yesterday, Freind cited a "Dr. Mecklenburg" as someone supporting his comments. He said Mecklenburg has 30 years' experience in obstetrics and gynecology, with clinics in Minnesota and Washington, D.C.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in Washington lists a Fred E. Mecklenburg in Great Falls, Va., as a member. But neither the organization nor public telephone directories list any offices or phone numbers for Mecklenburg.

A staff member in Freind's office said she would check on the full identity of the physician cited by Freind. But she did not return phone calls after that.

    Republicans should be ashamed!!!!!!

...but it wouldn't matter it it did. Lib or Con...women are women, and they're not going to be told to do anything. Never give the ol' lady a hard time because she owns half of the money and ALL of the p***y. It's sad that Libs don't hold LIFE in the same high regard as Cons, and think it's somehow...sane, to let a murderer live for 20 years on Death Row or sometimes provide for them for life, and yet think nothing of killing an innocent child just because it happens to be on the INSIDE of someone instead of on the outside.

The Republicans are not waging a "war on women" or anything of the kind; in fact, if anybody on planet Earth is waging a war on women, it's orthodox Muslims. And remember, Barack Obama is a Muslim (he won't publicly admit to being a Muslim, but he DID let it slip out of his mouth in his 2008 Presidential campaign in an interview with George Stephanopoulos).

The Republicans' "war on women" is non-existent; orthodox Islam's war on women (and on Jews and Christians and anybody who does not wish to become a Muslim), on the other hand, is very REAL.

Akin is not on the Republican national ticket. I hope that Romney is as pragmatic as I believe him to be, because there is a reral possibility that he can win the election. BTW, Ann Romney doesn't strike me as a shrinking violet. not only does Mitt seems geniunely in love with her, but he values her as a partner.
