"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

The Republican Party is an elitist big government fascist machine. It is one face of the two face political party beast and the one you see when it faces right. The Democratic Party is the face you see when it looks left. Ayn Rand philisophy is about small government and Individual rights. Being Fascist on the right and Communist on the left, our party system has no room for freedom. Control by force and illusion is the name of the game.

Some of the more conservatives who may or may not be Republicans think of Ayn Rand had good ideas and wrote good books.

At least they aren't as bad as the other groups who follow a second rate S-F author aka Scientologists.

i think that ann rands thought process plays very heavily in the republican party.
    why i do not know.
lets us look at facts she was a philospher and writer, she has no degree in economics
    or any higher education.
her early life she lived in the eastern bloc, which molded her thinking.
in that type of system many would think the same as she did. after all there economics
were based upon a system that craved getting central planning at all times and little or no freedoms.
in our system we need some regulations on business, to save business from itself and destroying the rest of us.
ann rand i am sure was a very intelligent writer but in the end simply another writer.

Another idiotic wasted question...You can relate this question to Obama and his lemmings who are followers of Cloward & Piven, Saul Alinksi mantra and their real leader George Soros. So please show some intelligence in your questions and less one sided thinking.

It will be interesting to watch your posts after Romney is elected president, Bob. You won't have anything to post and you may even have to look for a job. I'm assuming that you are unemployed because you post so many questions on SH. And you monitor them all. That takes a fair amount of time.

Liberals have always been known as the mean and nasty people on the block. If there is a rally by Republicans liberals will show up and try to start a fight. If you disagree with a liberal (Obama for instance) on any comment board liberals will immediately brand you a racist or hate monger.

Everyone, but you and Bob, knows that liberals are the real racists, the real anti-women, the real socialists, the real anti-business group in this country. I could have gone on but I'm really getting tired of your kind that does not want to have an honest discussion about the issues. As a conservative I am normally very laid back. I will not stay laid back this time. I can guarantee you that what ever you can dish I can give back to ten fold. Try me, I dare you.

Only an idiot who never read Ayn Rand would start this poll. If you did read it, bob, you would know they are not the same. If anything, the democratic party is in the grip of the Noam Chomsky cult which is a lot worse.

I would venture that most people - Republican and democrat - have never read anything by Ayn Rand, nor do they have any grasp of her world view or the reasons she believed what she believed. I would challenge any left-leaning person to sit down and read any of her books or attempt one of her essays. WARNING - they require you to engage your brain, not just react emotionally, so they will be challenging to anyone who is a knee-jerk jerk.

The republican party is so similar to the democrat party that neither are smart enough to be objectivists. Objectivism in it self is it's own reward. Democrats and liberals are too stupid to understand what Ayn Rand was about . Republicans also are somewhat lost when it come to understanding Ms. Rand. The TEA party also misses the mark. The closest group of people you have to understanding the objectives of Ayn Rand are the 'Fair Tax' people.

She was an atheist but the leftists never mention that. She condemned the religious right-Ronald Reagan alliance before she died in 1982. I have found that people who hate her the most never read her ESP if they call her ANN Rand.

The "leftists" mention Ayn Rand was a militant atheist every opportunity they get. It makes ultra-religious Ayn Rand nuts like Paul Ryan look pretty silly for holding steadfast to contradictory ideologies. I've seen more apologists from the far-right that say she wouldn't have been atheist if she had known whatever brand of Christianity they're selling. It must be that damn liberal Christianity that she didn't like...

But if Romney gets the Nomination, then no it is just some new bastardized lie that they'll sell us to get elected while giving us socialism.
Ron Paul 2012! He is going to the convention! For the first time in many years the RNC is actually a convention and not a formality.

Bob's message is brought to you by Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals." The question comes from Alinsky's Rule #5, namely ridicule. Saul knelt down to Lucifer which is why he dedicated his book to the fallen angel.

Alinsky once told Playboy Magazine, If there is an afterlife, and I have anything to say about it, I will unreservedly choose to go to hell."

Dems who practice Alinsky's tactics are cult members for evil.
