The government has been cooking the books for a long time. Its not just Obama. Clinton, Bush, and Obama all benefited from redefining a discouraged worker - a redefinition that now is cutting massive numbers of people out of the official numbers. They all benefit from Greenspan's product substitution principle that helps lower the official inflation rate from 9% to 3%. Many presidents also benefited from trust funds being used to decrease the deficit. Clinton was able to pretend we had a surplus using this trick, when in reality we did not.

Statistics also tend to leave out factors like the length of unemployment. They love to mention the amount of jobs created, but not in relation to the growth of demand for job (as an example, if 1000 jobs are created, but the society needs 1200 to accommodate for population growth, that is still a shrinking economy).

The current employment rate is about 60%, that would make the real unemployment rate about 40%. How they get 8% is from the Book kitchen where their doing lots of cooking. These employment rates do not consider all those that went on Social Security early (putting a strain on SS) because they couldn't find work.

Europe uses Employment Rates instead of Unemployment rates. A more honest indicator.

The only Loon here is the one jumping to the conclusion that I support the Obama Administration in the acceptance of the Reagan Administration's introduction of the skewed determination criteria for what constitutes an "Unemployed Citizen". Truth be known I thought Reagan was a Liberal, as were the following Bush and Clinton Administrations, with G Dubya Bush winning the foolish Liberal of the century award next to Woodrow Wilson, and I think President Obama is just a continuation of the ruinous policy concepts that were manifest upon the country in the Bush Admin. The true unemployment rate is up around 28% and it is on the edge (<180 days) of another big increase as the US dollar is replaced as the world reserve currency, and the Federal Government's stimulus borrowing from the Fed will come to an end, as will the current lifeblood of Wall Street's taxpayer borrowed funds.
