Very few death sentences are handed down compared to years ago and most are never carried out due to the ridiculous appeals process and commuting to life w/o parole.

Charlie Manson should have been pushing daisies long ago but CA. has flopped back & forth and never re-instated his original sentence.

With today's technology and DNA evidence, it's hard to argue that people have been unjustly convicted by 12 of their peers.

In those cases, justice should be swift & inexpensive.

    Blindfold ........ $1.99
    Rope ............. $2.49
    3 rounds ....... $2.29
Elimination of a repeat offender ........ priceless.

Before you kill anyone please let them write a book. I want to understand their mind and I think a book about it would be lovely before someone dies. What better place to do it than in jail.

Locking them up and using them in medical experiments and testing is a more cost efficient and fitting punishment.

Keeping a person in prison at the moment is cheaper than executing them because of the extra cost of death row and all the appeals, keep them in a pit with bread and water and hire them put for medical testing, they should bring in a tidy profit...

How many innocents put to death is enough? In answer to your question there are many. Putting murderers to death is not going to end murder. My brothers killer is still alive. Killing him won't bring back Jimmy, nor will it prevent other murders.

Murderers commit "Undeserved acts of cruel and unusual execution" against their victims, and against their victim's will, and they break the hearts of the victim's loved ones, and cause undeserved grief in that family. When God gave Moses the Ten Commandments and the Law, why do you think he also commanded that murderers be put to death? Because of everything I mentioned above and more.

One reason I love Florida so much is because when I left New York and moved here, it was refreshing to see that Florida was one of the first 4 states to bring back the death penalty. The message Florida sent to me is "We care about our crime victims," unlike liberal New York who cares more about criminal rights.

    Don't mess with Florida!

Necessary? No. There are other ways to keep even the worst criminals off the street. About the only real societal advantage is that you are garenteed the person will not escape jail and break the law again. However, it comes with the flaw of not allowing the prisoner to appeal once the sentence is carried out.
Thankfully we have appeals processes to it, but there are several flaws. For one, the current appeals processes make capital punishment more expensive than life imprisonment. Then we also have the problem of documented cases of prosecutors and judges throwing innocent people on death row - mostly for pride.

"Thou shalt not kill (murder)" is an individual mandate. The death penalty is not murder. It is society carrying out justice IAW the law. Don't just grab one sentence out of context and proclaim a blanket position based on it. Look at the entire context and the wording in the original language.

The Death Penalty is MURDER. You can justify it any way you wish - it doesn't change the fact. God, and only God has the right to decide when an individuals life ends.

    End of discussion.

Points being that many convicted of murder have since proven to be innocent. Some a couple decades or more after their convictions and while I don't believe there is any doubt about Manson's guilt it is unjust to treat him any differently than any other person convicted of murder.

I guess you missed the third portion of my post above.

I get all the bleeding heart excuses about the handful of people unjustly put to death vs the 1,000's who walked, were repeat offenders, and went on to destroy 10,000's of other's lives.

There is no comparison between the two statistics ..... none.

And you're still missing the point about swift & inexpensive. Manson never should have been breathing by the time CA. flip-flopped the first time.

You are right there is no comparison one innocent put to death unjustly is too many.

As for swift justice, appeals exist for the sake of the innocent not for the sake of the guilty. I'm not willing to give up any available appeals simply because someday it could be me or one of my sons or my wife or my mother etc. who is walking down the wrong street someday and misidentified.

Do you have children? If you do which of them are you willing to have sacrificed for the sake of swifter justice?

And to that I say.... which of you're children are you willing to sacrifice, only to be found dismembered in a trash can someday?

You cannot cite ONE case since DNA testing was applied, compounded with a trial & conviction by unanimous verdict, where someone has been unduly sentenced to death, much less the sentence carried out. ONE, just ONE.

You're attempting to use an ancient argument to justify the current state of affairs.
Sorry.... that kind of BS doesn't fly with me.

Most murder cases (contrary to popular television) do not utilize DNA evidence. Most convictions today still rely on eyewitness testimony.
