I've been there and seen the progress. It will be slow and I doubt it will be finished in my lifetime, but it's a grand project that's for sure.

At least it's not made from someone's holy place as Rushmore is.

True, but the landscape is the property of the Lakota Indians and we are only there as invited guests

(invited to spend our $$) <~~~ Sorry, couldn't resist a little cynicism ;o)~

I dont believe in a mountain being someones property and I didnt think Native Americans did either. Yes your right about the $$ lol its hard not to be cynical in these times though eh?

It's a great idea to commemorate the life of a man who fought against genocide.

I agree in some respects I just have a problem with the fact they are blowing up a beautiful and natural mountain to do it.

You should have been around to protest against Mt Rushmore.

Sounds a bit crazy kinda like the last stand of an Indian hero?

Waste of money. It started as a tribute to the Native Americans but, as usual, it is a debaucle of sorts

Im not sure how destroying a natural mountain is really in keeping with the Native American way of life.

You make a good point - though I don't mind the project, I did have this great feeling of irony when I saw it up close.

That represents a totally different ideal, If the purpose of the crazy horse piece is to remember the man and his beliefs is blowing up a mountain the best way to do it? Im pretty sure Rameses II didnt give much thought about anyone but himself.

why does it represent a different ideal. If you lived in the times Abu Simbel was created it might have been very similar.

Rameses created that in his own image out of ego its totally different, this is supposed to be a tribute to Crazy Horses life.
