It's not completely the fault of the average American... the media has WAY too much influence on the American psyche and they've turned our political process into a left vs right football game. The truth most Americans need to realize is that behind all the rhetoric their is only a small lick of difference the two parties.

No. But most are too ignorant of reality to have a clue what they are voting for when they back their chosen party's establishment puppet.

This is hard to answer because I do think unfortunately a very good percentage of Americans ARE too uninformed or to uneducated or just too poor to actually know what and why and for whom they are voting.

A good many, just follow the brightest star.. whatever television tells them. Many do not even know what party their hero is in..others are so poor they vote with their hearts, hoping the liar up front is REALLY telling them he will help. Others are paid to vote.. ah yes, in this great so called republic of our, votes are still paif for. and not to the little guy.. it is the big corporations and unions.. "vote for me and I will get you this that and the next thing". and then, like in Obama's case, they have to spend their whole presidency paying back.. and never get anythig done.

Are the people dumb.. perhaps, in some cases.. but the ones who are really dumb.. ARE THE MEDIA AND THE POLITICIANS.. God only knows why we listen.. perhaps we are dumb after all!

They're not too dumb to vote for President... they're too dumb to choose the candidates trying to become candidate because they are too intellectually lazy. The vast majority of Americans could care less who is running as all that matters ultimately is beating the other side and not letting them win... even if the people on your side have less ability to lead than the other side as LEADERSHIP ABILITY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.

Just read most of the topics with Obama supporters fawning all over him like the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and his opposition blindly saying Anyone But Obama which I guess includes the Devil himself.

Idiots, the whole damn lot for the simple reality most Americans right left and center have been dumbed down so much they can't even spend an hour a week trying to learn new information about their candidates when they'll be stuck with them for the next 2,4 or 6 years... and by not spending that one hour a week to learn and make an informed decision, you then become responsible for everything going wrong in this country because leadership ability means nothing to you... just beat the other side and keep them from imposing their views on our side.

Have you ever considered that maybe it's you causing the problem instead of it always being the other side...

No... you never think like that as it's always the other side.

At least if you're in the center there's a chance you'll be informed and try to see both sides instead of following the pack like a blind sheep led to slaughter. When one side gains a majority powerbase in Washington DC, that side will shift from center to extreme left or right while if the powers are balanced a bit better... both sides shift to the extreme when if they both try to find the center to heal themselves, they might just find themselves sharing a glass of beer or a pizza with someone they thought was an enemy, but now find they actually have some things in common!

    Stop being sheep!

They aren't too dumb; they are too ignorant. It's good that they don't vote.

There are people who think our tax dollars come from Obama's "stash." There are people who don't know who their senators and congressperson are.

They should not vote, but in some cases they vote several times because Democrat operatives will drive them from one polling place to another.

I would not say they are dumb but rather misinformed. If they learned to look at facts they would not have voted for Obama, then on the other hand you have the ones that bitch about the outcome and they are the people that don't vote at all.

Oh my Gawd Yes.. For instance, Obama has lied from the start and some people still believe him. For instance, It's Bush's fault. Who was the setting Congress ? It was the Democratic Congress with Mr. Obama a Congressman that voted to not monitor Freddie Mac or Freddie Mae. Then Obama slides in as President and then all the sudden, "It's Bush's fault... I Laugh everytime I hear this. I'm sure ole Bushy did some pretty dumb things but this wasn't one of them...

Of course. I get a big kick out of the "experts" on foreign policy on this forum. Immigration is also beyond the pale. Most believe illegals can just be rounded up and marched back over the border. Why on earth would Mexico want our illegal Brazilians, Sri Lankans, Chinese, etc. ??

A little bit of knowledge is a very dangerous thing. The media plays on that big time.

Right now they are in a rebuilding period and have shown a lack of experience and ability to elect a President. With practice and training they will once again be able to do this. In the meantime they should first attempt to elect a Vice President. Once successful at doing this several times. they should move on to President. Knowing this is a problem, the government has taken the bold move to compensate for the lack of ability and hired SCYTL to do the voting for all Americans.

Most Americans do not keep abreast of the most important issues facing the country and vote for a candidate based on the most superficial reasons i.e. looks, personality, race, etc. Perhaps an I.Q. test should be required in order to vote, but this would probably rule out most liberals.

    Perhaps.

You know what I hate? when people become 18 and can vote, their parents tell them who to vote for. A lot of people only vote for who their parents do and never look into the information themselves.

Separate rant, but I had to let it out there.

98 million didn't exercise their right to vote in 2008 because they were too concerned with who was going to win on DWTS and which contestant was up next on the Price is right.

Not too dumb, but all too often intellectually lazy!

The issue is the fact that too many Americans can't name their 3 Congress-critters, the Vice President, or most of the cabinet members if you ask 'em and have no clue as to what issues any of these folks actually campaigned on or their record since taking office. They walked in, punched a card, or pulled a lever, or toucheda block on a screen without any real cognizance of what was going on - they liked the candidates' looks, they liked the candidates' speaking styles, candidates vowed to 'gore the other guy's ox' not theirs, the candidates promised 'em 'something for nothing', they felt the candidates 'were just like me', or they just loved the taste of the snake oil they were being sold.

You want to award the albatross - hang it around the neck of apathetic citizens that don't have a clue when they perform their pilgrimage to the polling place and then refuse to take responsibilty for monitoring the fools they chose to represent them! Actually checking on these clowns might interefere with "American Idol" "Jersey Shore", "Monday Night Football", playing "Grand Theft Auto" or "Call of Duty", or otherwise living vicariously through a keyboard.

We've gotten exactly the government the majority deserves. As Pogo said, 'We have met the enemy and they is us!"

This government has become so gigantic and growing faster every day. Those who work and have families to care for and bills to pay would find it impossible to keep up with even half the issues. The brainwashing by media and the government's "education" makes it worse. Maybe not dumb, but hell, they don't have a chance!

I don't care if they vote for Obama but there has to a basic test of fundamental workings of government if this thing is going to work long term. You can't have idiots being influenced to vote because of an MTV style music video. This is tearing the country apart.
