The Atheist Ayn Rand as the GOP’s GOD is a perfect match made in heaven or Hell
Ayn Rand influenced the writing of the Satanic Bible and Paul Ryan in writing and sponsoring legislation

while Rand is an atheist she either intentionally or unintentionally makes use of many Christian Apocalyptic archetypes. In Atlas Shrugged we have the second coming of Christ in the person of brilliant inventor John Galt who suffers from all the moochers and leeches who steal his inventions and make him cry himself to sleep every night. He vanishes from the Earth and then all of the other "good people" (i.e. brilliant scientists, innovators, inventors, engineers, technicians) begin to mysteriously disappear as well. Unbeknownst to the world Galt has spirited them away to his invisible lair "Galt's Gulch" where not only do they wait for the evil moochers and leeches to destroy the world they actually help hasten it's demise by sabotaging bridges and railroads. Galt promises all of his brilliant disciples that after the government and regulation-tainted economic system collapses that he and his followers will emerge from the ashes to establish a veritable paradise on Earth based on free market principles...blah blah blah blah.

that's why they love her...she is the goddess of laissez faire capitalism...and the Christians on the right seem to be quite adroit at doing all of the mental, moral, ethical, psychological gymnastics to reconcile these diametrically opposed philosphies.

I watched an interview from either the Daily Show or the Colbert Report and a woman was on who had done diligent research on Ayn Rand. Although I vehemently despise the amorality of Ayn Rand's overall philosophy - apparently, she was in favor of a woman's right to choose and other things that were diametrically opposed to the GOP's platform.

I took an entirely different meaning from Ayn rand. I firmly believe that any republican who claims to embrace her ideas and then votes for TARP NAFTA or any other trade bill or claims to support them, didn't actually read her work.

    ==========
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth."

What is wrong? Is it that you just can't stand it that GOP is actually open to the ideas of all types of people? It seems to me that the atheists are the ones who are entirely closed minded to anyone but their own ilk. - Guess how I know that....

More to the point, Ayn Rand was more an anti-theist than an atheist. BIG DIFFERENCE>

An anti-theist believes in the removal and disassemblly of all religious organizations.

An Atheist simply does not believe in a Supreme Being/God.

I'm going to assume most of you don't know anything about Ayn Rand philosophy or have read her books foretelling this type of Government interference in our lives.

“We’ve got to run the world for the sake of the little people. It’s intelligence that’s caused all the troubles of humanity. Man’s mind is the root of all evil. This is the day of the heart. It’s the weak, the meek, the sick and the humble that must be the only objects of our concern. Those who’re big are here to serve those who aren’t. If they refuse to do their moral duty, we’ve got to force them. There once was an Age of Reason, but we’ve progressed beyond it. This is the Age of Love.” the politicians and villains from Atlas Shrugged

Do you even consider yourself a Christian? Rand hated Christians like yourself. She hated everything they stand for.

No she hated the Fundamentalist Christian ideals that we must suffer for others that propagated during the expansion of America. As for those who believe that she believed in selfishness that again is a misrepresentation of what her ideals were; she believed that altruism was an impossible goal in that you could never give all of yourself to help others and that individualism is possible as is generosity but it cannot be mandated by the Government.

The Government plays on people's altruism in this day and age because they don't do for others, they play on people's sense of need to provide for others and this did not mean that you cannot be benevolent but it was a principle that it was an individual choice not as an obligation of a forced moral code. I am not my brother’s keeper becomes a mantra, returning to the principles that built America. The Founding Father's believed in the individual's rights to freedom from Government interference and yet here we are providing for people who provide nothing to society. I believe in Christianity but as a Christian I believe in giving as my choice not as my Government responsibility.

Ayn Rand despised all altruism, not just the government mandated type. I have read her work, I even have her "Virtue of Selfishness" essay on my bookshelf. You cannot reconcile her philosophy with Christianity unless you misunderstand one or both of the two "philosophies" There is no overlap.

Well then you don't understand altruism or Rand's philosophy just because you own the books and have read them means nothing. Altruism is giving all you have for others and to the detriment of yourself and individualism is not selfish but "rational self interest" since Pure Altruism cannot be achieved and the Government exploits that as a means in which to impose altruism on the people.

You realize she titled her book the Virtue of Selfishness for the same reason people are offended by it.

Nonsense. You cannot redefine the English language for the single purpose of defending Ayn Rand. Your desperation is showing.

The basic principle of altruism is that man has no right to exist for his own sake, that service to others is the only justification of his existence, and that self-sacrifice is his highest moral duty, virtue and value. Please note that most people and Christian's don't give of themselves for altruistic reasons they give out of sense of duty or obligation whether it is to God or fear of God's wrath or guilt.

How is it possible to live up to that principle? Your need to dismiss Objectivism and rely on Socialism as a principle for the good of mankind is far-fetched and doesn't allow for anyone to improve themselves. Rand saw each person developing their skills in whatever they did because what they did was important for society and if they did it to the best of their ability it would improve society.

Ayn Rand is the right wing libertarian Anti-Jesus delivering her perverted version of the Sermon on the Mount through her works of fiction. The ominpotent, omniscient, omnibenevolent market is the right wing libertarian fundamentalist's Anti-God. All are required to worship the Market as the one true path to enlightenment. Failing to adequately workship the greatness and infallibility of the Market will result in excommunication and being branded as a "Statist" or even worse a "Socialist".

I have read her books and I have listened to the words of her small minded minions. My characterization is accurate and I stand by it. Feel free to disagree. It probably went a little bit over your head. I have found that people like you who put jingoistic symbols in their avatar seem to have IQs in the low 90s or less. Your narrow mindedness notwithstanding seem to feign any understanding past what is explained to you within the realm of your indoctrination within the educational system that teaches the most liberal of ideologies. Funny how Liberals always spout how education prevents indoctrination into ideals and yet they spout the same mantra in each of their posts and use similar tactics to dismiss people when they have no legitimate argument.

Resorting to name calling because you cannot understand something is old, believing that you are right and everyone else is wrong is as childish as the "my Dad can beat your Dad" argument that Liberals use to justify their position in every facet of politics and discord. I understand how my avatar offends you because I understand how patriotism and symbols offend Liberals, I am unapologetically American I served America used my GI bill to go to college after I had seen the way the world actually works not after high school when Liberal professors could try and push their world view or the way the world "should" work on to people.

While the Liberals view Rand as some sort of sociopath it has been their policies that have been more damaging to the culture of America and it's "what about me?" and "what's in it for me?" philosophy seems to be the mantra that occurs each time they push for more social programs. No real social programs have been introduced in the last 30+ years have actually been beneficial and the Welfare to Work program is slowly being dismantled by Obama and Democrat Governors so while you rant about the Rand's philosophy I leave you with this bit:

“We’ve got to run the world for the sake of the little people. It’s intelligence that’s caused all the troubles of humanity. Man’s mind is the root of all evil." Politicians from Atlas Shrugged
Not much different from what we have in our country today.
