actualy this one was contrived by that illustrious senator criminal Chriss Dodd,who,one week ago,SLIPPED a provision into the AIG money that allowed the bonuses to stand. hhmmm,mr dodd is the # 1 receiver of freddie mac campaing money in the form of donations--and received his "friends of angelo" reduced mortgage rate saving him THOUSANDSSSSSSSSSSSS now i WONDER who # 2 receiver of money is from these folkS WHO ALSO GOT A REDUCED MORTGAGE RATE???? WUPSIE,ITS OUR FEARLESS NEW LEADER BARRY !!!!!

AND CONGRATULATIONS AMERICA,OUR TAX DOLLARS HELPED AIG BAILOUT FOREIGN BANKS WITH BILLIONS !!!!!

How can President Obama be to blame when Christopher Dodd was the one who slipped the provision in for bonuses? It blindsided him too! The detractors of the President look for every way to slam him! It's like blaming the big sister when the brother stold a peanut butter and jelly sandwidh from the fridge after midnight!

A tax cheat designs the bailout and then Dodd who received campaign donation from AIG, amends the bill so that bonuses would not be affected. Damn when will people get it, this is all designed for political spinning. Quite similar to the mortgage crisis we are now having. Maxine Waters, Barney Frank, and Chris Dodd had key roles in that getting out of control. Liberals more often than not create problems, so they can blame others.They'll then jump in to fix them, but for some strange reason in order to fix them, they have to spend trillions of dollars on everything but the problem, then spend billions more because what they inherited was so much worse than they originally thought, and then a few more billion because the first problem didn't get enough funding...... This all makes me very sick!

Of course it is. These "bonuses" were approved when the libs/dems gave them the bailout. Now the Obama camp is actually trying to back pedal & tax 95% of each bonus. I can't stand AIG but you can't go back & tax something that was already given out.

I think it shows the incompetency of this administration. Geithner, Dodd and most likely more knew about these bonuses, but maybe thought no one would find out? I do not like these bonuses but when you take over a business you really need to look into prior contracts and have a plan put into place before signing the final papers. We have people running our country that do think beyond the day. Fortunately for them the American people do have short term memories.

Who the hell knows wtf is going on in Obama's head... But it wouldnt surprise me.

Mistakes were made, but rarely is there any purpose of the president taking time to comment on them at length. Just like there was no logical reason why he spent so much time bemoaning Rush Limbaugh other than distraction.

It's been revealed that they knew about these contractual bonuses for some time. They're retention bonuses given to people who are about to laid off as a means to keep them on the job until their release date, rather than spend time looking for the next job. There is also the inconvenient fact that Timmy Geithner, Obama's Secretary of Treasurer was the coordinator for these bailouts that took place. But be that as that may, according to the editorial in today's (3/17/2009) Wall Street Journal, the real outrage of the AIG is the fact that they were essentially the launderer for money destined to go to places like Goldman Sachs and to European Banks.

I disagree with the premise of your question. What "plummeting approval ratings" are you talking about? According to the latest rolling Gallup poll, President Obama has a 62% approval rating, and a 27% disapproval rating.

I would also like to point out that the contracts for AIG bonuses were made before AIG's first infusion of bailout monies of $85 billion made on September 16th, 2008.

Different polls have different results. The real poll that counted was the one on election day a little more than four months ago, and that poll was very decisive. What I find interesting is what the Republicans are saying about the AIG bonuses today on the hill. Plus the fact that the division that was responsible for issuing insurance policies on the bundled CCC rated mortages that were sold as AAA rated bonds (AIG PF), that division made 73 millionaires while the company was poised for failure without government intervention. The top 10 executives recieved more than $43 million in bonuses last Friday, while another 11 top execs had already left the company that were getting million dollar plus bonuses. When that kind of compensation package is contracted BEFORE the initial $85 billion bailout last September, there was no punishment for failure and thus high risk policies were inacted, which greatly contributed to the ecomomic problem that the country faces today.

Not just his approval ratings..........he wants to slip healthcare and cap and trade into the budget they just passed. He would never have gotten this far had more people been paying attention. Instead they're buying the sunshine he's pounding up their as*es from his teleprompter. And for you liberals out there all outraged..........The 165 million in bonuses don't compare to the 900 million taxpayer dollars obummer is giving to the palestinians to "rebuild" after the Israeli's defended themselves.
