I think it's strange that people assume they WOULDN'T be making money off of us. Who pays the salaries of tech support (just cuz they stink at their job doesn't mean they don't exist) or the servers? Or the data storage? or the domain costs? The internet isn't free people hints the ------------> creepy squid ad to the right. You voluntarily come to this site, what exactly did you think was the purpose??

Yes. Not only that, be warned that SodaHead is Malware! I had problems with my computer and had them fixed. As it turned out my Computer was loaded up with a bunch of viruses, adware, and other malware, all stemming from SodaHead use.

My Computer is now well protected and each and every page I go to on SH my virus protection informs me that malicious URL has been blocked. Every page! Be smart, and have your Computer worked on and make sure that you have very good virus protection. Always update your virus protection each time before opening the internet so that you have the most up-to-date protection.

I certainly hope they do! Otherwise this site won't be around much longer :-) Just imagine the bandwidth costs for a site like this. Anyway, there is an internet-inspired saying that goes "if you're not the customer you're the product". I have no problems with being the product.

Why wouldn't they? The money to keep the site up and running has to come from somewhere.

Wouldn't it be nice if, like other forums, SH found a way of offering some token reward to its contributors?

NO WAY! I figured all the full time programmers were all working for free and set up the points system so we would use the site less! How unbelievably shocking!

I would suggest that contributing members could have their contributions rewarded whether financially, as with VirginMedia, or promotional goodies.
    Just a thought.

You should hope so, sites that dont make money off their members seldom stay open for very long, they also tend to be the least likely to make upgrades that benefit the members and the least likely to listen to member complaints.

I would assume so. I never imagined that the site was founded out of a sense of altruism, just for our entertainment. ;-)

I check to see who authored most posts before I answer.

I typically avoid questions by SH 'writers' because the content is usually so bad, with the occasional exception of Adrihead; because most of her posts don't seem nearly as slanted and incendiary.

I also dont answer posts from ABCNews, NewsMax, Lets Ask America, ESPN, or any of the other "partners" SH has taken on recently.

And I actually got HaHaJK.com (whom I assume is now a former 'partner') to block me, which totally negates their whole purpose of being here to do 'research.'

    =D

    Couple of things here:

    1) Of course the owner is making money from the traffic on his site; that's the whole purpose.

    2) >>>"SodaHead.com, the web’s leading organic market research engine..."<<<

Um, according to whom, exactly? Compared to FB & Twitter many people have never even heard of this site.

    3) >>>"10 Million unique 'users"<<<

Note the terminology there. Users, not members.
This site only allegedly has about half a million members... and once you factor in all the fake and deactivated accounts, that's not an accurate tally either.

Most people seem to find this site by accident while doing image searches on google, but that doesnt necessarily mean that they all stay and become members; most do not.

I immediately LAUGHED at that number. Uneducated marketing shills probably believe that number, but we know better. It's a HIGHLY inflated number.

Even if the real figure for members is only half that claimed, it still makes for a pretty large sampling pool, from a market research POV.

Even then, one has to take it on faith that those are active members who are providing accurate information.

    I, personally, am not.

The email I use for this site is just one of many and its not under my legal name.

I provide no demographic info other than gender and country, and I avoid answering obvious marketing research questions.

The site uses me, and I use it back.
