Wasn't there a time, not that long ago, when student protests were, you know, about something? In New York City's legendary Stuyvesant High School, kids are bucking the administration en masse and taking on another critical issue: dress codes. They fought back hard recently at new regulations in a campaign they called "Slutty Wednesday," during which they wore risque outfits to school and passed around flyers that said "Redress the Dress Code." Edgy!

slutty wednesday

Some of the draconian rules the brave students are protesting require, according to The New York Times that any sayings and illustrations on clothing should be in “good taste.” Another calls for shorts, dresses and skirts to extend at least beyond the fingertips when arms are extended straight down. A third bans the exposing of “shoulders, undergarments, midriffs and lower backs.”

“We work our asses off here and school is about learning. Clothing is not important,” ninth grader Lucy Greider told The New York Post. Some of the boys protested the new rules as well, claiming offense that the administration assumed they were unable to control themselves in the presence of girls in short skirts, and definitely not because they want to see girls in short skirts. So what do you think about "Slutty Wednesday?"

Can someone please explain to me what is up with all this self identifying of women as "slut something or other" ? Started with the Slut walks ,next came the slut vote and now this with young girls no less.Come on a 14 yr old 9th grader with lovely language I may add..Where are the parents? By the look of the ones pictured perhaps bag over head Wednesday would have been a better idea.

Thank the liberals for this one...idiots! There is nothing empowering about the word.It has a meaning that we all know.No self respecting woman should ever identify herself that way.http://www.mediaite.com/o...

"the liberals"? Really? I consider myself liberal, and this would not happen in my house either. Don't make such broad statements. Your ignorance is showing.

Your ignorance in not knowing where both the slut walks and the rock the slut vote that proceeded this came from. LIBERALS that's where Even more ignorant is you not comprehending that pertained to the link. You really are in no position to tell anyone what they should do after that reply.

Sorry for my confusion since you were replying to someone who made no reference to your initial remark about the word 'slut.' I thought you were thanking liberals for the scantily clad teens. My mistake. And, to be clear, that group is really more like angry, paranoid, liberal feminists than just liberals in general. They're giving strong women a bad name.

My apologies for being so harsh.. As if enough damage by what is considered celebrity isn't damaging enough to our kids they now are associating with this.

there was a school my sisters used to go to in tennesse where the shorts or skirts couldn't be shorter than your knees. lol. now that is strict. lol.

ya that's like my high school. No yoga pants, only shorts allowed are bermuda ones, no off the shoulder long sleeve shirts =/
seems silly to me when teachers are wearing tank tops.

tank tops weren't even allowed in that school it was one of them "obsessed with jesus" towns. so anything that showed more than your face, or more than half your arms or legs was bad bad bad. thank god i graduated before we moved there cause i would have been mad to follow their rules. so since i wan't even in school any more i could dress how i wanted. ^_^

I go to a uniform high school, we just have rules for dress down days that are about 2 pages long. I have about a week left until I can burn all my uniform clothes, thankfully!

The clothing is inappropriate, schooling is to get you ready for a job. Now how the Hell are you suppose to dress properly for a job and cant even dress right in school. If they worked for a law firm they would be fire... The school should retaliate and put them all in uniforms.

Teachers wear tank tops, yoga pants, and knee high shirts all the time, so why can't students?

Unless you support teachers banging their students etc.. This is also not about individual rights either, it's about a conducive learning environment, not MTV's skins outtakes.

There is no correlation between schools with out uniform dress codes and perverted teachers getting with students. It happens at uniform high schools, it happens where students can wear whatever they want.

the point missy, you want to play grown and be a whore. You want more teachers trolling for underaged girls? Maybe that's your fantasy, a sugar daddy?

Don't call me missy, and stop being ignorant.
Old men are going to troll underage girls whether they're in a bathing suit or whether they're in something like the uniform I wear to school. Should we wear bags over our heads and winter jackets with big baggy flood pants all year? Will that draw less attention? I'm not saying people should be able to wear whatever the hell they want, and I'm not one of those girls that wants to wear tube tops to school. I'm saying that what you said was damn stupid because there are plenty of uniform schools with perverts lurking, and our uniforms are baggy and unattractive.

I think dressing girls slutting in highschool would easily distract a high school male, (I know I would have been) but if none of the girls in this picture are really dressed bad. It looks like they're going to gym class.

my x boyfriend was from korea, he was an A student and was so good when he was still in korea, but from what his sister told me, when he moved to america he turned into a pot head and a failure at school and he wrecked 4 mercades cars and has multiple DUI charges. america changed that nice young man he used to be into a punk. lol. so i go by the idea that students in korea are indeed better than students in america.
