There are three types of People:

    A. People that don't want to know.
    B. People in the know.
    C. People that WANT to know.

The only people that think Ron Paul is irrelevant fall into category (A). Of course, these people will always be (A)'s[ses]

Ron Paul is only irrelevant by his own design. He can continue to sound like the doomsday hermit in the hut in the forest, or he can start sounding like a real statesman that not only correctly points out what's wrong, but put forth a comprehensive and smart plan to clean it up. He does a really good job at part A, but a horrible job at part B, so he just comes off sounding like a protest candidate instead of someone that instills faith in the voter base that he could really change anything.

It isn't just Ron Paul that is irrelevant to the GOP primaries, it's also GOP voters.

He is irrelevant to me but not to many of his supporters that will probably not vote 2012.

No, I do not think he is irrelevent. He is one of the candidates that sparks diologues, and as a benefit, is getting people interested in politics. He manages to take many of the complicated points that Gingrich was making (which everyone booed him for), and present them in a simpler, straitforward way that people can relate to and easily understand.
He is not my first choice for the fact that 'everything I would like him to do that he proposes he will not have the power to do as president, and everything I worry he might do that he has proposed he will be able to do from day 1'. (I forgot who initially said that, but it summed up my thoughts nicely, so I'll paraphrase it).

However, now that Santorum is out of the race - if Romney indeed wins the nomination, I would be tempted to vote for Ron Paul as a libertarian third party candidate.

I said yes just because most republicans are too conservative to support him. Personally, I'd rather see him win the GOP nomination than Romney, but I have a progressive bias.

Reality. for example conservatives are not necessarily moral, they just say they are because most believe you have to have religion to be moral.
And I don't really believe that desire to smoke weed is a Libertarian's first desire. Actually the few I have met just seem like they don't want to pay taxes or help anyone who isn't like them. But I have only met a few.

Well, you're speaking to a Libertarian who often helps others out through charitable actions. My most favorite charitable organizations are the Center for Economic Progress, Junior Achievement, and Habitat for Humanity. I often believe that a charitable organization can do a better job with its intentions than the Federal and sometimes the state government can.

And Obama loves him. I like him, but he will get the GOP bid. . .he will most likely run as an independent, which will screw Mitt. The best case for mitt is to let him be VP. . .and give Obama a real run.

He's a nice demonstration that large segments of the Republican Party (in Paul's case about 10%) don't agree with the direction of the Party. Nonetheless, in November most of them will vote against their own interests by voting for the Republican slate of candidates.

He provides a good voice that I think the other candidates may learn from in order to appeal to more voters, but I certainly don't think he has a fighting chance at winning.

If he takes his followers away from Romney, they will stay home and not vote for anyone. This is what I would encourage him to do. Everyone else should vote for Gary Johnson, who left the Rs to run as a Libertarian.

In order to have one's name placed in nomination at the Republican Party National Convention, one needs to have won 5 states. As of today, 4/15/12, Ron Paul has not won a single state.
