Is 'Rock the Slut Vote' an Effective Political Tactic?

In response to Rush Limbaugh calling law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" for supporting mandated insurance coverage of contraceptives, Susan McMillan Emry, a 56-year-old mother of two, founded "Rock the Slut Vote." The tongue-in-cheek campaign proposes to reclaim the word from derogatory use, as well as to generate awareness with shock value.

Emry told ABC News, "It's really about taking the power away from that word more than it is about Rush Limbaugh. He gave the word the notoriety but we are trying to take it back." She also wrote in a blog post, "By reclaiming the most hurtful, shaming words, groups rise up, unite and fight against intimidation and injustice." Do you think the "Rock the Slut Vote" campaign will be effective? Will it be able to take the word back?

God knows there are enough sluts in the United States. Say what you want about the Muslims, they do have a point about the immorality in the West.

I was thinking of an old "Hill Street Bules" episode. The one cop was sitting at a type writer doing his arrest report of some prostitutes. He complained to his buddy; "The P key is stuck, how can I write this up?"
His buddy replied "Use the W key." :-)

I really don't care how much sex a person has at all, seriously you could have sex every day of the week and in the end all you can really get from that is that you like sex, but liking sex is one thing, asking other people to pay for it is another thing entirely. That'd be like me asking other people to pay my electric bill because I watch T.V all the time.

OK once more for the right wing guys who prove why we need sex ed in schools

If you watch a lot of TV the bill goes up
    HOWEVER
The pill is the same cost rather your Jena Jameson Or whatever repressed woman that you think does it te right amount
    HOWEVER
Viagra does cost more based on times used
It is usualy covered No one is arguing about that

WHY? because the right is a bunch of Misogynistic Limp Dicked Patriarchs

Yeah, but Viagra isn't a contraceptive. It's a medicine used to treat a legitimate disease. A better comparison would have been condoms and last I checked condoms aren't covered.

Yup us liberals are known for our teen pregnancy's.
But that's because we ban sex ed, think abortion is evil, believe in outdated religious ideas on birth control and we think gays sex is wrong
    OH WAIT THAT'S NOT US

I mean be mildly accurate teen pregnancy is much higher for Christians, in red states than anything else as far as the Pot whatever I'll give my 14 year old a bong, you give yours a gun and lets see who fares best

Jesus walked over 2,000 years ago. His writing: 100 years to 500 years after his death. We cant agree on what Obama said last week with youtube, fox, cbs, nbc and cnn. So, whos name is on the bible, king james.

I am against the humans that do that. I tell you the truth. I defend the ones that are oppressed whoever they are. Jesus is in the humans that are oppressed. I will never no not ever lie to you. I defend the furry of the furry fandom who are child like like Jesus is, and the human that has sex with another species, and the humans that just so happens to have sex with young humans, and the clothing optional human to be naked where they want to be naked. I appose to the death penalty, and I am against Jail, and the legal system, and all forms of the militarily ,and against humans preventing life on purpose with condoms, and pills, and other form of contraception, and the killing of humans when, and before they are born.

Then I apologize for my statement, I may not agree with you on religion but if you are genuinely following the love side of the religion then I have nothing but respect for you
Christians who follow the teaching of Jesus, not just the judgmental laws in Leviticus are rare in my experience

You are a follower of Jesus dear friend. Others will be saved beholding the goodness that is in you. Those that adhere to Leviticus, and Exodus laws are as loveless as a burning oven, and as cold hearted as the ice on Europa around Jupiter.

No, it is not an effective political tactic, but it does help identify the virtues of women holding the signs. By the way, Rush Limbaugh did not call her a "slut" for supporting mandated contraceptive coverage, he used that term because she, an unmarried student, indicated on live T.V. that it was costing her $1,000 a year for her birth control! That is a lot of activity. It was not the best term Limbaugh could have used, but she described her lifestyle. The key to all of that was not that she was having illicit sex - a lot- she wanted us, the taxpayers to pay for her birth control so she could continue doing it for free!

As you described very well Bob this career student, (probably stays in school because it's easier to get laid), spends 1,000 bucks a month to support a level of sexual promiscuity that would make a mink blush and the left gets all riled up shouting she is NOT a slut.

Sarah Palin is married to the same man for 20 plus years, has four or five kids with him, never known to fool around and what does the left label her? A SLUT or course.

    You're kidding, right?

She has been called a slut (David Letterman), a c**t and a dumb tw*t (BIll Maher), a whore, a bitch, and a whole vile slew of other names, as have many conservative women who dare to enter the public arena.

Only liberal women have the luxury of the media taking offense on their behalf.

There is a liberal media blackout of stories like that. People that aren't offended by one of their own suggesting a political opponent's 14 year old daughter got buggered in a baseball dugout tend not to report things like that. For the same reason many liberal members of congress have never heard of Operation Fast and Furious. Michelle Bachman got the same treatment.

Your level of hate is frightening, especially since it is not based on anything these women actually did, but simply on what you have been told to believe.

Read and think for yourself; there's a big world out there, and you're not getting the whole picture.

You are saying this as though it is an acdemic disagrement

They want to strip women, gays and workers of thier most basic rights, kill people in the middle east,

The reason that the labels are unrelated is there is no label that is aproprite to display a the level of digust I feel toward them. but I guess I called her a mean name that is much worse than taking away rights or bombing countries

In Wisconsin, public employee union members had the 'right' to call in sick for their shift, then work the next shift for overtime pay...the 'right' to pay nothing toward their health care and retirement plans... the 'right' to make 28% more, on average, than those in the private sector who were paying their bills...the current liberal administration is doing just fine in killing people in the middle east, including drone strikes in Libya (unconstitutional, since we are not at war with them and Congress was not asked to approve military action there)...all people in the US are 'stripped' of their right to kill other viable human beings, except in the case of women and abortion (are you aware the liberals in Congress refused to vote against 'gendercide', which is the killing of unborn babies because they happen to be the 'wrong' sex, which is almost always female?) How about the right to vote, which the New Black Panther party tried to take from citizens in the last election? (They were caught on video wearing paramilitary gear and brandishing batons at polling places; the Justice Department declined to care, since our AG has stated publicly he will not prosecute blacks in the same way as whites)...

These are factual examples from the real world, not middle-school name-calling. Saying someone is a dooky-head adds no new information, accomplishes nothing, and lowers the level of the discussion to no discussion at all.
