In response to Rush Limbaugh calling law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" for supporting mandated insurance coverage of contraceptives, Susan McMillan Emry, a 56-year-old mother of two, founded "Rock the Slut Vote." The tongue-in-cheek campaign proposes to reclaim the word from derogatory use, as well as to generate awareness with shock value.
Emry told ABC News, "It's really about taking the power away from that word more than it is about Rush Limbaugh. He gave the word the notoriety but we are trying to take it back." She also wrote in a blog post, "By reclaiming the most hurtful, shaming words, groups rise up, unite and fight against intimidation and injustice." Do you think the "Rock the Slut Vote" campaign will be effective? Will it be able to take the word back?

Simmering Frog 2012/06/05 19:46:15No+25God knows there are enough sluts in the United States. Say what you want about the Muslims, they do have a point about the immorality in the West.

As they teach you in rehab
Admitting you have a proplem is half the battle....
The one I'm currently dating has dated about three or four girls prior to me, each an actual relationship, and those were the ones he chose to sleep with. My brother doesn't have a girlfriend, currently, because he doesn't consider himself in a place to have one, but has only had sex with one girl, in his life. His best friend also doesn't have a girlfriend, currently, but neither does he have sex.
It sounds like you're comparing sluts to man/he-sluts.
Women who sleep around, and don't remember the names of the men they sleep with? They're sluts. It's fact of life. Men who do the same? They're sluts. It's a fact of life.
I personally don't hold to the double standard that if a man does it, it's okay, but if a woman does it, it's wrong. If either sex does it....it's wrong. Why is that so hard for people to get?
The intention was to agree with you from the oppiste side plus expand on your statement
You see it as wrong for both I see it as OK for both and either view is respectabile in my mind
My point was when guys consider a woman trashy and unrespectabile for doing something they did as well but think there OK
I have not been to sleep yet you just woke up so I have no idea who was unclear
It would be far more acurite to say how mena are able to act and still be respected or even praised.
It's the sexist double standard that is the issue
It's the same for sluts on either side of the bar. There are men who respect men who sleep around, because they're "scoring," there are men who don't. There are women who appreciate that a woman sleeps around, because she's "owning" her sexuality, there are women who don't.
There were the same claims made during the Slutwalk craze, that they were reclaiming the word. I have no idea what other possible meaning anyone has ever attached to 'slut', and I would love to be a fly on the wall at those meetings. High comedy, indeed.
Other words in dire need of 'reclaiming': floozy, harlot, hooker, hussy, prostitute, skank, tart, tramp, vamp, wanton, wench, whore.

You make it sound like a one time thing, it will be yearly we were just talking about it today so why be a fly, if your area is doing it you could go as a person
However that began in response to a cop blaming how a child (12 i think) was dressed for her rape.Saying she was dressed "slutty" It was more about fighting the she had it coming mindset and saying women can dress how they want.
This started over Rush calling Sandra Fluke a slut for standing up for womens healthcare
really nothing to "take back" if Fluke is a slu for that the word has already been one that should be worn with pride
If all female panels they suddenly started defunding men clinics, outlawed my ability to choose what to do witth my body and repealing laws sayng I had to be paid equally and my spouse could not hit me
I'd see a war on men
I actually find FOX the most ironic all that is not a war on women but if saying "happy Holidays" is a war on Xmas?
You lost me here, if they are getting the same pay, it is for the same job and thus would have the same risk
