Is Right-to-Work: Protecting workers or UNION-Busting??!!

Right-to-work is a conservative business ploy to deny workers the right to unionize and collectively bargain by framing the argument in such a way as to appeal to workers despite it being detrimental to them.

Union workers are anything but middle class. They make ridiculously inflated wages for the work they perform and the rest of us pay for it. They destroyed American industry and are bankrupting cities and towns across the country with their never-ending demand for more and more of our dollars. Unions outlived their usefulness a long time ago and exist today only to protect incompetent hacks that would not be employable otherwise. I know; I've supervised some of them over the past 15 years.

Well, he is my thoughts.. I have nothing against it either way, but what I do have a problem with is the way the unions are acting and behaving.. Yes, Unions where most definitely needed back in the day, but today they seem to act like any other huge corporate group/organization.. Meaning that the head people in charge are really only in it for themselves first and foremost before the workers.. While in many cases they are letting the Shlepee worker get all off w/ no penalties and the hard workers have to make up for it all.. Which is just like big government.. They want to take care of themselves before the little people now a days... Which is a shame.. I think that if u are in a position of power u should be taking care of the people who are under you and who put your there in the first place..

Its clearly Union busting, wrapped up in a cynical attempt to say it is protecting workers. Evidence have clearly showed that when Union membership started to decline, so did worker wages, and working conditions.

Why should anyone have to give up a portion of their pay if they don't choose to?

Unions were at one time useful and needed. Now they are redundant and bullyish and power hungry. They don't fight for anyone BUT the union. NOT for the workers anymore.

It allows the company to be non-union if it so desires. I feel as though there are times when the union thinks it owns the company. Too often they forget who actually pays the wages and benefits. General Motors was the poster child of union overkill and the results of it.

Well stated. The formula is the same as it always was and GM will again go down the toilet. Next time, they will be taking some of our tax dollars with them.

Had GM been able to file for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, its union contracts would have been renegotiated and the whole corporation reorganized. There is now a probability that today it would have been a lean profitable company. Balmy's intrusion did it no good. They still owe the taxpayers 30 billion dollars.

I agree completely. We will never see a dime of that money. We'll get liberal propaganda spin that the money was mysteriously paid back to the tax payers. I also will never again own a GM or Chrysler vehicle.

I believe many first time politicians that make it to DC have honest intentions of serving honorably. Somewhere along the way, they are either intimidated to conformity or sell out to the power brokers.

More than likely they are intimidated with the old cliche' "Don't do as I do; do as I say." I have, however, noted that the 84 new seats are still banded together so maybe the proper "change" is in the hopper.

How can you call forcing someone to belong to a group and not allowing them to have the freedom to negotiate for their own labor, protecting them? I know a lot about public sector unions because I belonged to one for 25 years. Since I have dropped out I have seen the nastiness and the coercive thugs at work.

If it was such a good deal for the employee you wouldn't have to force it on them. I get paid the same as the guy next to me doing much less. I can't get paid more and he can't be paid less. We can't even make him do his fair share. I thought liberals were all about FAIR? I think not!

Unions were originally designed to protect the workers and create a safe environment. That evolved into political stream of money and power and the dues paid was given strickly to support of the democratic party whether or not you agreed with it or not. Well the protection went to the wayside.

Yes it is true. I've got friends who are union members. Union leadership tells them to vote Democrat because that is the party their money supports.

Unions are a blight on this nation. They are greedy and unfair. Members often have to go with the Unions decision even if they do not feel it's right or face punishments. They are typically left leaning and have thrown their weight around in way that is detrimental to our system. We need to outlaw Unions ASAP.

Only the lazy want to belong to a union in the 21st century.

40 hours pay, NOT 40 hours work. For most, it is half that. I supervised in union shops on and off for the past 15 years. Most of the day is spent baby sitting whiners, not supervising a work force.

You are exactly correct. See my comment above. Union labor has become nothing more than a security blanket for a large number of very incompetent laborers who would be fired under any other circumstances for their pitiful job performance.

The Federal government has made it hard for companies to negotiate with Unions. passing rule and regulations that make it difficult for Companies to strike a fair deal for the union and the company. So many of the states have had to pass right to work laws. We need unions but we also need to make negotiation fair.

FLorida is a right to work state and it has shoved this state into poverty. With no accoutability for decisions made by upper Management they are putting in people that are their buddies and then just tank the company with their assinine decisions. A UNION would have stopped it and fired the Manager.

I have seen people that make money for the company, have done nothing wrong, but still get FIRED due to the present Management is afraid they will take their job.

Load of crap. Unions have zero power to fire management. And, you can NOT fire a union employee without first going through months and months of arduous paper work documenting their total incompetence. Even then, you are likely to have to retain them and just put them somewhere in the company where they don't cause you a headache.

and so what, that was 1930s and 40s. Our own government worked against blacks also, they did not even allow blacks to participate equally in the GI-Bill after WWII so now should i hate my country also for what was done 60to 80 years ago?
