She is an extremely hard working elderly woman. Totally dedicated to her country as are the other royals.
We tried a republic, that was rubbish.
    God Save the Queen.

I fail to see the problem with a person who symbolizes her Nation's Sovereignty and works for the mitigation of human suffering across the globe in the form of Charity and Awareness.

She works hard. She just doesn't sit on her ass all day. Of course she gets money from taxpayers, IT'S HER COUNTRY. We gain it back from tourism and everything else. I'm sick of these bitter people talking about things they don't even understand. Mind your own damn business. We run our country this way because it WORKS. Just let people enjoy the celebrations and keep your narrow-minded views to yourself.

This gives a good explanation, money-wise:

there has ALWASY been a king or queen on the throne ( execpt with Oliver Cromwell and even he acted like he was the king)-what is remarkable for the british is they "successfully" civilized their monarchy and made them more democratic...... unlike the Germany or Russia or even Italy...hence more popular..

There have been several studies done on the cost of the Monarchy and the benefits they also bring such as tourism. All of those studies have shown that despite the royal families cost they generate much more in revenue.

I enjoy some of the older English TV programs.

Sometimes I think it would be horrible if everything started to look the same around the world with globalization.

The Queen does not have an income of her own as the State demands all her duties as head of State must be subjudicated by and for the State's benefit.

I'm no royalist but I do think our present queen does a fine job as an ambassador for our country and has a genuine sense of service to her country. The rest of them, esp some of the younger, minor royals are a bunch of hooray henrys who couldn't hold down a real job if their life depended on it. And Prince Phillip has a major foot in mouth problem!!

Yep and the queen is monarch in name only, she has zero political power. As it should be in a democracy.
