Is outsourcing bad?

Outsourcing definitely cuts costs of businesses, but it seems that it also hurts our own economy and can be utilized as an abuse against emerging markets. So I don't see that the tradeoff is worth it, do you?

I also think that's why investors should be putting effort into investing in these markets directly so that they can block abuses corporations from misusing labor in the regions.

Protection against mega corporations

Mega corporations, with the help of big government, have been using the poor economic condition of those in emerging markets to make massive profits through outsourcing of labor at low costs. On top of that, corporations like Monsanto are misusing GMO foods to damage and corner the ecosystem in nations like India.

However businesses that are started and run within these nations are entirely different from the corrupt outsourcing entities that abuse the situation in these emerging markets. By investing in smaller businesses within these nations, we can help protect against the abuses of these mega corporations. Small business and a lot of small investors working to benefit a region are a perfect way to block the power of these corrupt entities.

We need to start manufacturing something here in the U.S. The day will come when we'll need to be able to make things and won't have the facilities or the skilled labor to do it. We cannot rely on foreign nations to provide us with our goods. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

Well, you never know. It was WWII that gave us the biggest boon for the middle class with all the demand for products as soldiers came home, married, bought houses and went to school on the GI bill and made a good life for their families. Problem is, if we get into another war at this point, we could end up destroying everything.

Except in the case of WWII, we actually had the facilities to rev up production; we don't anymore. We now rely on foreign industry.

Outsourcing is good. There are domestic outsourcing companies. I have worked for at least two. The discussion should be about outsourcing overseas, which is neither good nor bad in and of itself, but what is bad is the fact that our government makes it necessary to outsource overseas due to over regulation and taxation and the answer to helping our economy is to reduce the amount of both.

Out sourcing happens for many reasons. Wages, taxes, regulation and skilled labor. We need to address some of these issue before we can bring jobs back to this nation. We have far to many people with a great education but can do nothing. Not enough of people that have acquired skills. Many schools no longer have shop courses. When I was still working every person that I Supervised was from some other nation. I had a difficult time finding skilled labor to build my tooling and simple robots that I designed. I did not have time to teach someone how to operate a lathe. mil or grinder. Skill that they should have gain in High School.

The Point is Government should not interfere in business. Remove the regulations , restrictions , reporting and allow the free markets to operate .
Currently it can cost a business as high as $28,000 per employee to comply with government regulations http://www.mittromney.com/sit... That does not factor in all the businesses that were never started due to Regulations .

It depends. Outsourcing is detrimental when done in excess but fitting and entirely beneficial when done judiciously.

There are good things about outsourcing, and there are bad things about outsourcing.

One good thing about it is that it facilitates the busting of unions. When union workers can no longer fetch 50 dollars an hour for assembling widgets because slave labor in china will eagerly produce them for a dollar an hour, union workers have to reposition themselves to be more competitive in a world marketplace--or go the way of T-Rex.

It's bad, of course, because everyone's standard of living must by necessity be lowered to that of the rest of the world. (Exportation of jobs really isn't the big deal everyone thinks it is, because jobs which go overseas are usually replace by other kinds of jobs here. The auto-worker of the past is now the IT specialist of the present, and so on.)

In my opinion at least, outsourcing detracts from the domestic economy while also causing abuses in the emerging markets being utilized.

Outsourcing is good.

Outsourcing, like any policy, results in winners (the many local customers & the few 3rd-world employees with new jobs) and losers (the few who were fired in the outsourcing operation).

Like any vote (in this case, a vote with the customers' money), the many are the winners and the few are not.

There is good and bad. (sigh) If only we could cut-out all the bad.

GE outsourses its light bulb manufacturing, and also its MRI and Catscan equipment.
I can't name all the products that GE produces but you get the idea.
Do you buy Nike shoes or Reebok or some other brand. Tell me where they are manufactured in the US of A.
Let's move on to Oregon Chain Saw bars and saw chain. Owned by Blount.
It has a major manufacturing plant located in Milwaukie, Oregon, but it also owns Windsor in Canada et al.
Red Blount purchased the company in the early 1980's for 270million$.
He was going to use his profits from building a university in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
He saw that there was a lot of money in the employee retirement fund and profit share fund. So instead of using the profits from building the university he raided the other funds and came up with 270 million $ to purchase the company.
Yes, it was one of those companies that was started in a garage like Apple and Tektronix and many others.
So I guess that all the climate change people will be mad at Joe Cox for being inventive and building such a great product.

Outsourcing is bad and does not do much for the economy. Why is there outsourcing? The unions are 100% responsible for the technique, thus, it follows obumbo is the major culprit as he is 110% union oriented. The only union he wishes to crush is the United States of America.

It is neither good or bad. There is no morality in pure economics, there is only the cheapest way to produce the most product, distribute it and sell it to the most people. A true capitalist would sell anything to anyone at the highest price at any time. That is the natural way. The ways of people organized into nation states is to protect the integrity of that state and the goals of capitalism will sometimes clash with that end. Isn't that what the fighting is all about?
