Is our drone war setting a dangerous precedent?

Our sanctimoniously pacifist president who deplores the "torture" and incarceration of terrorists in Guantanamo committed by a past Republican president is now playing Master of the World with his drones.

When I see some other country burning the American flag I would love to go to war and Obama and his administration embracing a fight to those it has identified as a threat to the US security has prompted warnings from rights advocates and international security experts that the White House is setting a dangerous precedent that rogue nations could follow.

Think about this for a moment. In the case of this cop killer... They branded him a terrorist so they can go after him with drones. He's a murderer. NOT a terrorist. This man killed 3 people he targeted. He mentioned he was going to go after the others involved. BUT he didn't blow up any public venues, nor did he go after people who were not involved with his beef. Is he a murderer...Absolutely. A terrorist... No way This is a line that should NEVER be crossed because if it is....what's next? killing a man with no due process is WRONG! The police that accidentally shot up that old woman's truck could be just as easily deemed the same!

Just like every other military advancement we've had. I'm sure violent crime skyrocketed after we invented the Pointed Stick.
Everything about drones is unsettling to think much about, but they're out of the box now.

No more of a precedent than all other technological advancements. I am not a fan of the current administration,so it is painful for me to agree with anything they do. But I have to agree that this is the safest method with the lowest amount of "collateral damage".

What is an alternative solution? Walk away?

I dont want a president who already killed a child that was an American based on Obama saying the father was a terrorist flying those damn things around. Uncalled for.

Cannons, Machine guns, flame throwers, Radar, Battleships, as well as tanks all created a dangerous precedent. War is hell.

Actually, it's a misnomer to call it "drone warfare." It would be more appropriate to call it "drone terrorism" since the drones kill far more innocent civilians than they do "terrorists."

Keep in mind that the CIA's Rules of Engagement allow them to consider any military-aged male a "Terrorist Suspect" and therefore, eligible to be murdered.

Explain to me how, exactly, murdering 15 year old boys and girls; old men and women; and whole families sleeping in their beds in Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan and Libya is "saving American lives."

its far less dangerous than the "preemptive war" of bush2, and probably more legal. That's why bush2, Cheney and Rumsfeld have been convicted of war crimes.

The Bush regime did not enact a "preemptive war." They instigated a "preventive war."

Preemptive war is legal under international law if there's an imminent threat of attack. There was no threat from the Iraqis in 2003. They had no possibility of attacking the US.

Preventive war is always illegal under international law. Under the Nuremburg Rules, the greatest possible crime that can be committed is an illegal, aggressive war.

The fact that Bush and Co. were never prosecuted for war crimes is simply because the US is the dominate power in the world today. This doesn't lessen their crimes, it merely protects them from prosecution.

The only reason bush n co haven't been prosecuted is that they have not left the US and visited any country where they could be grabbed and taken to a war crimes tribunal. There are a number of countries that have said they would immediately arrest bush, cheney and rumsfeld if they had the chance

this is not a yes or no issue. we will not know the full extent of the drones for years to come. so this defies a yes or no answer.
in the future this could be the slippery slope. all that said however for now i am in favor of
using drones to hunt and terrorisits.
reason is simple it kills them without risking us service men. with most terrorists you must kill them when the oppurtunity presents itself, if not they will strike and kill someone in due time.
then there is the issue of drones themselves, some one in the future will aquire these weapons and possibly use them on us, or worse yet we use them on ourselves.

nothing like automating warfare, no need to pay salaries and benefits for ground soldiers or hire private ground soldiers, won't even need war ships or planes. Yes, except for the fact that there's no such thing as the "Liberal Left." There are Liberals, yes, and they definitely are silent about Obama's war crimes and drone terrorism program - disgustingly so.

But if you bothered to visit any real leftist sites (Truthdig, Information Clearing House, Alternet, etc.) you would quickly find that the left "screams and hollers" quite loudly about the drone terrorism and the rest of Obama's murderous programs, just as they did with the Bush regime's war crimes.

Since 1945, all American presidents have engaged in multiple war crimes - all of them.
