Actor Nicolas Cage was arrested after he got drunk in the city's French Quarter and argued in the street with his wife over whether a house they were in front of was theirs, police said Saturday.

The couple was in front of a home that Cage insisted they were renting, police said. When she said it wasn't theirs, Cage grabbed her arm, according to a police news release.

Cage started hitting vehicles and tried to get into a taxi, police said. An officer saw that Cage was drunk and told him to get out of the cab. Cage then started yelling at the officer.

The actor has been booked on charges of domestic abuse battery, disturbing the peace and public drunkenness. He was released on $11,000 bond Saturday.

Representatives for Cage could not immediately be reached Saturday.

Cage has been a frequent visitor to New Orleans, where he has owned property and shot movies. He has also had financial troubles, despite being one of the highest-paid stars in Hollywood.

He had been behind on taxes and has said he's had to sell numerous assets because of his finances. He sued his former business manager in October 2009 for $20 million, claiming the man's advice led him to financial ruin.

Cage won an Academy Award for his performance in 1995's "Leaving Las Vegas."

I don't think that Cage would go down the same road as Sheen. Everyone has had an argument over something trivial at some stage of their life.Having had a few drinks too many does not make Cage a mental case like Sheen.I absolutely adored Sheen in his films and the comedy series "Two and a half men",because he is a great actor,but there comes a point when you have to draw the line.Cage isn't anything like that and hope he wont descent down that slippery path ever.

I dunno, but I do have a Cage story. I was in a bar in New Orleans maybe 8 years ago and Cage and his entourage of 10 or so people came in. One of them went up to the bar and placed an order. It was a small jazz bar, you couldn't help but watch the scene. No drinks got poured. After about a full 10 minutes they all packed up and left, noisely, angryly and rude while the small quartet played. After asking the waitress later, she explained that the handler told them Nick would stay if the fed the whole gang free drinks. When the bartender/owner wouldn't comp them they left. They guy has been an ass in my book ever since.

Public perseption...it's human nature to think what we see in a movie is the way it is in real life...Bret Favre is that way too...My father's friend was in a bar in Mississippi, when Favre walks in. my father's friend preceeds to ask for his autograph...but Favre acted asthough he wasn't even there...most celebrities are ass wholes.

I sure as heck hope not ! I think Nicholas Cage is more serious about his career and his
personal life. He is not as eccentric as Charlie tends to be and he is a much better actor ! I think he had a bad day like we've all had from time to time. What's a little drinking and fighting ? It's happened to the best of us !

Why can't person's see another persons flaw's and simply have the Human ability and capacity to reason out that we all have something wrong with ourselve's? So he got Drunk and the unreasonabe people of the planet want to capitalise on his Dirty Laundry. Our society is One that engage's the Use of Alcohol, then we want to condem each other with it's Negative Social Effect's
I mean this is his own life to live and learn, like you you, like me, and like them. I think charli is Cool.....

he's a man / a human being ... a damm terrific actor .. not our place to judge him ....

remember folks we all have demons .. it isnt right to judge another ... cause they act a certain way for what ever reason ..... and it doesnt seem right to us ...

That's the problem with celebrities. After a while they start believing their own hype, that they can do whatever in the hell they want. Nick found out different. Must come as an unpleasant surprise when reality slaps them in the face like that.
