Is Mitt Romney REALLY Pro-life?

Mitt Romney in 1994: "I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. [...]
I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years, that we
should sustain and support it and I sustain and support that law and
the right of the woman to make that choice. [...] And you will not see
me wavering on that."

Mitt Romney on his application for Planned Parenthood donations:

Do you support the substance of the Supreme Court decision in Roe V Wade? Yes

Do you support state funding of abortion services through Medicaid for low-income women? Yes

Do you support efforts to increase access to emergency contraception? Yes

But then, He had a turn around. He saw the error of his ways.

"Mitt Romney is pro-life, and as he has said previously, he is
supportive of efforts to ensure recognition that life begins at
conception. He believes these matters should be left up to states to
decide," she said.

Then there was the interview with Huckabee in November of 2011:

HUCKABEE: Would you have supported a constitutional amendment that would have established the definition of life at conception?

Romney: Absolutely.

So Why, after the Mississippi Personnhood vote did he flip flop 180 degrees in only 24 hours?

Mitt Romney ONE DAY after that measure was defeated:

Romney's campaign stated that he was on the side of the majority after all, that he had NEVER supported Personnhood, and thought these decisions should be left up to the state.

So Mitt, what do you REALLY stand for?

It doesn't matter if HE is, personally. What does matter is who he would (theoretically) appoint to the Supreme Court.

Conservatives love fetuses, except for when they grow up and need welfare. Romney knows that the religious right will rage against a pro-choicer, even if he were conservative in every other way.

None of the Republican candidates are. They may be pro-birth, but they are definitely not pro-life. Because they don't care if that baby they credit themselves with saving has a chance to live in the future.

Who knows where Mitt will land on any issue from day to day? Most pols tailor their positions for the audience on a given day, but Mitt seems to be the clumsiest flipper we have.

It's my opinion Roe v. Wade will never be overturned. Stephanopolis can ask all the biased questions he wants and you can put an R or a D in the oval office, but the law isn't going to chang, so can we please focus on the economy and our debt...please?
  • findthe... Bronar 2012/01/11 01:58:27

That is precisely what Obama has been concerned about, but will any of you give his policies a chance? No way!

He had congress on his side for the first two years! What did he get done then? Yeah he's focused on doubling our debt in 4 years. He's put more new regulations, thus stifling the economy, than the previous 3 presidents. Oh, he's concerned all right. Just has no idea how to show the leadership to turn it around. You don't honestly think he deserves another four years do you? Look ay how bad the last 3 have been! Wake up!

Perhaps you should wake up! Open your eyes, there has been an improvement everywhere in the economy - that is proven. As Reagan and Bush always said..., "The size of the Debt doesn't matter", but at least the Democrats know that you can't grow the economy without investing in it!
  • Bronar findthe... 2012/01/12 03:27:27

I can't debate with anyone who honestly believes "there has been an improvement everywhere in the economy - that is proven." Clearly, you don't work in my industry or are trying to sell a house in my state. Guess I missed the proof.

Knowing that Mitt Romney is a Mormon, I truly believe he is pro-life. However, the issue of abortion is a very delicate one. I, myself, is pro-life, but I would never belittle anybody who made an abortion. I am sure they would love to give life to a child (it is in the nature of a woman), but for some reason they could not. It is their reasons, and I am not here to judge, but to support.

Since there are a minimum of 2 romney versions running around (mitt 1.0 & mitt 2.0), and 2.0 just ignores the existence of 1.0, since 2.0 was apparently not programmed to know that videotape exists, it is very hard to know which version is closer to reality. I think there is no reality. But it does make one wonder seriously what might happen if 2.0 were to get elected. Would he continue to be 2.0, or would he revert back to 1.0 because that might be closer to the actual mitt, if in fact one exists. Ultimately, I think it all comes down to:

excellent question. I believe there is no real mitt - he is in fact a political creation. But that's just my opinion. I would probably designate a real mitt 0.0. I think if any real mitt ever existed, it has long been lost in the collective.
