So is a military victory still a reality? Henry Kissinger doesn't think so. "A military victory in the sense of total control over the whole territory, imposed on the entire population, is not possible," Dr Kissinger said in Tokyo, where he received an honorary degree from Waseda University.

The faceless, ubiquitous nature of Iraq's insurgency, as well as the religious divide between Shiite and Sunni rivals, makes negotiating peace extremely difficult, he said.

But Dr Kissinger, who has also advised Mr Bush on Iraq, warned that a sudden pullout of troops or loss of influence could unleash chaos.

Dr Kissinger said the best way forward was to reconcile the differences between Iraq's warring sects with help from other countries. Source

YES!!! I get you so infuriated by these anti-American people saying things liek this. How can they not support the troops!!! Our troops are over there dying to protect our freedom and make it possible for these treasonous individuals to say these things and it BOILS MY BLOOD!!! We have to support our troops!!!

Chiming in 2 years late on this one.. Yes it is, but it requires America to accept that war is not for building schools and making Nerf bullets that only hit enemy soldiers and not civilians. Blow it all up. Kill anyone who looks questionable. If you a nation utterly destroyed, you have won... Obviously there will be waves of anger, and hiss-boo for generations to come, but this is WAR we're talking about, not a knitting circle.

Military victory is possible if we keep the wimps like Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, John Murtha, Hillaty Clinton, the aclu and the rest of the defeatist, anti-american s---heads out of the picture. Defeat Iraq the way we did japan then start the new government out with equal footing for all ,( sunnis, sheites and kurds alike).

It is the hardest war we have ever fought because this cowardly enemy attacks shopping centers and public places killing innocent children etc...If it were merely their military against ours...we would have already won.The best chance for success is to help the Iraqi people build their own government and support them in fighting the terrorists who dont want them to have a free and democratic society.Remember how proud those people were who walked for miles in the face of danger just to "vote".....the pride in their faces said it all.People want freedom, that is why the millions come to America.

To win this war we as Americans have to change our mindsets and put "politically correctness" on the sideline. The Commander and Chief needs to give our military the objective, and let the Generals obtain the goal by whatever means necessary. If we are not willing to do this, we may as well bring our forces back home and get ready for the worst.....

Some friends are on their third tour. Only if Congress starts sending their elgible children to increase the number of troops. which they stay as far from the front line as possible. There are no other Pat Tillmans out there.

Hell yes, we still have the most powerful army on the face of the earth. What we need is a leader that has the balls to finish the halfassed war he started.
Nuke the whole Middle East, burn their asses into dust. Who knows maybe KRB or Heliburton will find a way to use Radio Active Oil.

Power has nothing to do with it if the war is being run by a bunch of retards..And by the way have you served and have your chldren ,fathers,grandfather..I have found from a millatary family people who are this gunho for war have never felt the effcts of it..AND if u have served maybe u should go back if u love war so much....

Pragmatic victory- the area is historically unstable, but the best possible structure for containing this- is possible, and we must maintain a miliatry presence until we can get buildings built and not blown up again a week later.

the 3 major factions in iraq have been quarreling for many years now and i just dont how they can be reasoned with to stop fighting each other let alone and occupying force.

I dont think that the war is totally out of control but i think we cant win militarily because we are not there to conquer it but rebuild it and start a democracy in the middle east that will spread. im still on the fence with this one.

A military victory doesn't look like the best solution at this time. We need to help stabilize and train the Iraqi government and its people. If we wanted a military victory, we would need to stop the flow of weapons/insurgents coming from other countries, which may expand the war beyond Iraq's borders.

It's been obvious for quite some time now that victory was not obtainable, if anything perhaps this new commentary on the war will be acknowledge by our commander in chief. The only way we'll ever be able to move forward is to get the cooperation of other countries and stop isolating ourselves as the alpha and omega in the on goings of Iraq
