Appearances aren't everything. Our homeliest First Lady was one of, if out THE, finest First Ladies ever - Eleanor Roosevelt. Lady Bird Johnson and Mamie Eisenhauer weren't lovely women outside, but inside - where it counts - it was another story. I've seen worse First Ladies in office, and read of a few beyond that!

She walks the walk? Are you serious? You don't get a butt that wide eating lettuce! Does this look like a woman who watches what she eats?

She was a really ugly women so I'm not sure I get your point. I always believed that your wife should not have your same lineage before you marry her. FDR didn't exactly have the love affair of the century with his wife, now did he?

I wouldn't comment on Michelle Obama's weight if she wasn't telling people what to eat. I'm not into food fascism.

She's really not that large. Remember, the camera adds ten pounds and shes never going to be a size 4. People are expecting Hollywood thin and that's not going to happen.

Well, she is 5'11" and she's not a small woman. I saw an expert say that she wears a size 8 dress, which is absolutely ridiculous. I saw her inauguration dress and shoes at the Smithsonian and I'd say that she wears at least a size 12 or 13 shoes. They were gargantuan! Like I already said, I don't care how big she is but PLEEZE! don't tell me what to eat and how to stay in shape when I'm half her size. I'm in my mid 50's and I'd kick her butt running or biking.

Yes she does, and it does show. different races have a few differences ,but her butt is much smaller than many other white, or othe black women I've seen ,and her arms are toned ,not flabby patches shaking like jello. No, she talks a good game ,and looks attractive, Photos can be photoshopped ,and I believe tht one is. I made a change to this ,as I went to your profile ,and see you class yourself as average weight ,and from your political view ,I would have to say your reply was rooted in political jealousy. It happens ,I guess ,but when I look at Mrs Obama ,I see someone who does care about weight ,and proper eating habits. Sure everyone gets to indulge in a guilty pleasure once in a while, but the number of times is reflected in the waisline ,and I don't see it in hers.

I'm 5'3" and I wear a size 6, I'd say that's average or less. I never knew that having toned arms is all it takes to be considered in shape. Not having as big a butt as some women hardly means you don't have a big butt! She obviously is genetically predisposed to having large hips. You're totally missing my point and it's not driven by political party, it's driven by ideology.

I know that Progressives and Liberals don't understand the concept of individual freedom and believe that a certain sect of society know what's best for everyone. I totally reject the entire idea that people shouldn't be able to make their own decisions, good and bad. I believe that unless a parent is abusing their child, they get to make the decisions about what they should eat and how they should be raised. I totally reject the idea of a nanny state and Hillary Clinton's idea that it "takes a village to raise a child" meaning not that the community shouldn't look out for all of their children but that a child should be indoctrinated to the ideas of the state instead of the family.

Therefore, I don't want a Michelle Obama telling me how to eat, period. Secondarily I don't want someone who obviously doesn't follow her own directives imposing them on me. I don't want a Michael Bloomberg telling u...

See, how that's only about my conception and millions of other Americans that say "mind your own freaking business" and not "I only oppose your political party"?

Politics permeate every part of our lives so if you want to call it political go ahead, it's not personal against the woman because of her size. I totally respect her privacy to eat as she wishes and I expect the same in return.

I'm an independent ,and think both sides suck. I do admire her actions ,and maybe ,due to the amount of overblown fat asses of the day( I'm 6'1, and weigh about 205, and I keep myself in check ,but many others don't seem to be able to .Fast food drive throughs make it too easy to pull in, and get something when you really don't need it. I know you must be senseble about it, as I am ,but statistics show ,not only adults ,but the kids are packing on more weight ,and in the near future, you will see many cases of diabetes ,heart problems, and so forth. Just think of the insurance costs for these people ,and if they can't get insured ,and go for gov aid, I have to ask what's accomplished out of that. I believe we have to get serious about such matters, not kick the can down the road.

So, you're not a believer in individual freedom? You think a nanny is necessary? I guess there are many people who believe that. Even if it was true, you can't dictate human behavior. It's not from a lack of knowledge, it's from a lack of willpower. You can't buy that!

We might not have to worry about people being fat in the future when the economy has been completely destroyed through this "intellectual elitist" mentality.

Far from that, I'm rebellious to a tee. I'm not taking jabs at this ,I'm talking like it is ,that's how I am ,and if I have to call someone a fat ass ,it isn't because of meanness ,it's because of the fact the weight will overcome their stupid selves ,and when they go down, at least I hope they have insurance ,so I don't have to pay for their stupidity. No, I don't believe in nanny laws ,but the obese have problems with self esteem ,poor discipline ,what ever ,and that means it's time to see a shrink. This is a sickness ,no matter what .we are free to do anything we want, I appreciate that fact ,but being a butter ball is not good ,and makes one look like a target for bullies, or other evils I see people whining about. so Johnny gets kicked around in the school yard ,cause he's fat ,insecure ,has no self esteem. This tells me that there are truly evil type bullies that prey on the weak, and there are weak people who can't have the discipkine to push away from the table, eat sweets till they come out of their ears, or drown themselves in sweet drinks. You ,or I coud do that ,but we have restraint, and I do want my body to last a little longer ,and I'm strong enough to put up a good fight. Again, this is about our country becoming defensive for bad behaviour, and the bad thing about this is that our medical costs will climb like mad.

I know ,we can't really force it ,but be ready when it's time to support bad eating habits ,it's bad enough we have to support those who won't go to work ,and this will pile bills on more than we have now.

Still not disagreeing with the intent, only the tactics. By your theory we should just make crime illegal. If we made people responsible for themselves and their actions instead of giving them excuses, they might pay attention! If you have private insurance and they can't get any because they weigh 300 pounds you'll get the Progressive saying "aww, look at the poor guy, you want him to die" and the Conservative saying "you better lose some weight so you can get your own insurance". Which one do you choose?

I already say to lose weight I do say crime is illegal ,unless you're talking about those who are fat .I really pity them for no self control ,but they'll find out soon enough what will happen to em. but I do have a feeling any way it goes ,we'll be hit with some kind of bill ,and I'm not happy with that. And according to the news ,more are being added every day. I wonder how those on food stamps get that big.

You can buy anything with food stamps, they get a ton! Go to Walmart and look around and see the people that have a really full cart and then check out behind them. Then you'll see how they get fat on food stamps.

If they buy nothing but junk food ,I guess it can happen, and most of the ones that are too dumb to keep themselves in shape, may be in for a big suprise when things tighten up on the freebies ,and when they get that"grabber" ,they may have no place to go.

you're welcome. I speak ,and say how it is ,not what a lot of so called conservatives want to hear. Obesity is not healthy ,and I have to consider it as a sickness, and many obese parents have children that mostly will turn out the same way .I indulge in a little "evil pleasure" once in a while ,but that's it ,and some do it many times daily .they have to learn the dangers ,and not pass this along to their offspring. Fat isn't funny ,and can't be written off as someones personal choice without telling them what will happen down the road.

I agree totally. I'm not obese and never had that problem, but have had to deal with other health issues. A few years ago, I decided to start eating right and for the most part, I'm back to a healthy life and a happy one. If parents don't start doing something with their obese chlidren, we'll have a whole generation of short lived adults. Our first lady is trying her darnedest to help with the situation. We come in all shapes and sizes but we can be at a healthy weight. Education is the first step.

You're one of intellegence ,and thought. Posts like this are quite the magnet that bring out the predudice of many who profess to be devout christians ,of conservatives ,as seen by many ridiculous replies ,and remarks made about a woman whos i following her own advice .Her daughters are trim, as the husband ,and I believe they make a good case for being healthy, and fit .By your pic ,I can see you're of decent weight, and yes ,we all have made adjustments in our lifetime .I've got type two diabetes ,from my mothers side ,but am at 204,or so in weight ,and 6 foot plus.I've changed my diet to adjust for diabetes ,and if people like us can adjust our habits ,I'm sure many others can too.
