I don't see the two discussions as mutually exclusive. Anyone who is a religious zealot is also a whack-job. Look at history. Religion has been used as an excuse for whack-jobs to cause harm and death while feeling good about themselves. In more recent times, examples include Islamic Jihadists, David Koresh, Jones, etc. In World War II, the Emperor of Japan was considered the embodiment of God on earth and was followed on that basis. Suicide pilots planning to go to God killed themselves in order to kill others. The religious nut jobs further back involved themselves in Inquisitions, witch burnings. As long as people believe their God is absolutely right and whatever they do is justified on that basis there will continue to be whack-job religious terrorists. So, the question is are you so certain that your religion is the only right one and anything you do in the name of your God is correct, are you ready to accept responsibility for the next religious whack job who kills, maims, or takes us to war based on your belief and standing up to say your God alone is the one who is absolutely right? Some whack job out there may be listening to you.

The more we learn about the cold calculated act of this dastardly man, the more I think he was taught from the Jihad. It appears there is a lot of circumstantial evidence linking him to a conspiracy. I am concerned about the lack of intelligence from the CIA. With Obama trying to shut down the CIA because of their interrogation practices at Gitmo, there could be information that will be or was lost. The tactics of the CIA will not be used by the FBI and our intelligence gathering ability could set this guy free as a whack-job instead of an enemy terrorist.
