My father was a policeman and told me of several rape cases that destroyed the lives of men who were innocent. The other issue we have to deal with is the accusation of sexual abuse of children that is not verified during a custody case. There really is no answer. People can be vindictive, dishonest and leave the courts to decide. It sucks big time.

My sympathies go to the victims of such false accusations. It isn't fair that courts show favouritism to a specific gender, whichever it might be. The courts need to be unbiased and gender-neutral to be truly credible. Sadly, false claims are made far too often. There should be rigidly enforced punishment for those who lay false charges with malicious intent.

Hit wrong button! I think that it is terribly wrong for a woman to get away with this life ruining behavior. She should be held accountable for the results of lying and making false charges. And, any monetary gain should be repaid with fines and penalties. The guy who was falsely charged should have a victim's voice in her sentencing. Far too much of this stuff goes on and the lying sos gets away with it. Wrong!

Since when do women who falsely accuse people of rape go unpunished? Filing a false police report is a crime.

And very few are ever prosecuted. Most are coddled, and the rape recovery groups shield them.

Is it wrong, that in the USA, a man can rape a woman, effectively ruin her life, and never face any charges himself?

Because that happens. In the U.S., between 50 - 60% of rape cases go unreported, and only 25% of reported rapists serve any time in jail. In the U.K., the percentage of unreported rape cases are estimated to be between 75 - 95%. On the other hand, only 3% of reported rape cases are false allegations.

The facts. They are right here.

Comes from the most recent version of the National Crime Victimization Survey (at least the second source, can't vouch for the U.K. one).

Here is a pdf describing in detail how the surveying is conducted. ( http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/cont... )

In case you'd like to know more about it: ( http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/inde... )

And they do not pull numbers out of thin air, I assure you.

There are laws on the books in some states for filing a false report and prison time can go with the charges, rare when it happens. There are double standards in the justice system always has been

If the claim is proven to be false--not unable to be proven true, mind, because that's a gray area where no one can really be punished--then yes, she ought to be charged. It actually weakens the cases of women who actually WERE raped, not to mention it can seriously effect the life of the man accused.

Yes, it's beyond wrong. It's deplorable. And I pity the female who subjects a good man to such a horrendous accusation. There* is a saying... "What goes around comes around." Liars beware, what you put out - you get back. 10 fold.

Any woman that presses false rape charges should be charged with, at the very least, filing a false police report. I'd go with a defamation of character lawsuit, too, if it were me.

Only if she knowingly falsely accuses him. Then she needs to do every day he was sentenced with, as well as an additional period of time for false imprisonment and perjury.

There are women who knowingly falsely accuse a man of rape for reasons of their own. Of course they shouldn't be doing it! But it happens, they want to 'get even' with some poor SOB for whatever reasons.
