Is it right for the President to discusss birth control to high school students?

You!

“You can decide that instead of restricting access to birth control or defunding Planned Parenthood, we should make sure that in this country, women control their own health care choices. That’s up to you,” the president said to applause.

The President was speaking to a New Hampshire high school today about this. I am appalled and disgusted. This is for parents to discusss and sex ed classes, not the leader of All the people.

Not the best place but then when has Obama cared about doing what is best! I am for making sure woman have contraceptives because it would reduce the amount of unwanted children and the need for abortions!

The President should be focusing on the more important things...this topic falls under the families responsibility in my opinion!

i agree, in the great scheme of things this isn't most important; but i'm not always sure i can trust families with this stuff these days :/

Parents should be responsible for discussing that or allowing their kid to participate in an educational class about it. It is the parents job to educate their children on safe sex not our president. Also, doesn't he have the economy to worry about?

Just because their parents should, doesn't mean they do. They need to learn about this stuff...besides, it's not like it was that bad? It's not like he was asking them to pull down their pants...sometimes I just think people look for the stupidest things to make the president look bad. I respect your opinions, but that's what I think.

No it is not - that is not what his job is and that may be the entire problem with his presidency - he does not have a clue what he is supposed to be doing

No, our Government has no Constitutional authority to be involved in our Sex lives, Reproduction Rights, or Health Care. And those who say they do, are ignoring the Constitution, by saying so.

Sorry but we have to quit treating kids like objects. Kids aren't buying into the "Just say no" philosophy that abstinence-only education provides, as the explosion of teenage pregnancies and STDs suggest. I do believe in comprehensive sex ed, but I also believe in abstinence-as-a-best-practice as well. Not that I think kids should sleep around, but I notice a very significant different between people my age (who largely practice safe sex because we were bombed with safe sex ads during the whole AIDS explosion) versus younger people today I know (who largely don't practice safe sex because they don't view it as a big deal; while all they hear is "Just Say No", all they see on TV, the internet, movies, and between their own parents are "Yes, yes, yes!")

Oh I know they will have sex at some time; hopefully later than high school, but my entire post is just that the President is way out of line here.

Leave that to the parents. That is if the parents themselves know anything.

I'm sure she did!!! I can't help but think though that there are many parents out there as ignorant as some kids are about sex. So even IF it were up to the parents, who's to say that they will even talk to their kids? Many of them don't, and many don't know what to say.

You're right, but that is why we have sex ed in schools. But the President shouldn't go around discussing something like that; it is out of place and he should be giving speeches on working hard and political science subjects.
