Is It OK for a Child to Have More Than Two Parents?

California Democrats want to increase the number of parents a child can have. SB 1476 would allow a child to have more than two parents at the same time in order to accommodate same-sex parents, surrogates, assisted reproduction, and other non-traditional parental relationships.

SacBee.com reports: Mom and Dad, same-sex couples or blended families, California law is clear: No more than two legal parents per child. State Sen. Mark Leno is pushing legislation to allow a child to have multiple parents.

"The bill brings California into the 21st century, recognizing that there are more than Ozzie and Harriet families today," Leno said. But some disagree. "It comes as no surprise that he would try to say that a child has more than two parents – that's absurd," said Benjamin Lopez, a legislative analyst for Traditional Values Coalition, a Bible-based civil rights group.

SacBee points out potential problems and complexities caused by SB 1476:
Tax deductions, citizenship, probate, public assistance, school notifications and Social Security rights all can be affected by determinations of parenthood, notes the Association of Certified Family Law Specialists.

Examples of three-parent relationships that could be affected by SB 1476 include: 1) A family in which a man began dating a woman while she was pregnant, then raised that child with her for seven years. The youth also had a parental relationship with the biological father. 2) A same-sex couple who asked a close male friend to help them conceive, then decided that all three would raise the child. 3) A divorce in which a woman and her second husband were the legal parents of a child, but the biological father maintained close ties as well. How do you feel about the proposed bill?

With the stipulation that they do NOT indoctrinate children to believe homosexuality is normal, because IT IS NOT. It is an ALTERNATIVE CHOICE.

I think this will help separated parents retain their legal standing as a parent. Should one parent remarry and the new parent adopts them (sometimes without the original parents permission), this allows the original parent their rights as a parent as well...albeit shared. I also believe this will add stabilty to a child's life as it is well known they gain by learning they have more than one (or two in this case) parent to lean on for support.

For tax purposes. it's whoever has them 51% of the year. For school officials, it simply adds to the Legal Guardian list...but there is only one Primary Parent when it comes to registration.

Actually it's not OK. As a Christian, maximum of 2 is enough. Because if more than 2, such as one husband and two wives, there is no more "my one and only love." In the Old Testament God gave Solomon to have many wives (700+) because men never get satisfied. Men took advantage because God said, "...you are ruler of all other creatures.." If we have more than 2 parents, we will have no speciality, no "my one and only love" and no favorite parent. You will not like having 4 parents or so. Because most of the time, they will get in arguments. Please do not abuse my religion because if you do, God will do the same to you. "...do ye as you would want thy neighbours to do unto you.."

Even Christians get divorced. Both loving parents will want to be their parent. Meanwhile, new partners of the separated parents should be loving enough to handle the responsibilty as well. The Old Testament is the past, as your Saviour dictates, btw. I'm not bashing it, just helping things to be in perspective. The specialty of being a parent is always special and separation never takes that away.

Christians who get divorced are not true Christians because they both were not considerate of each other and did not have a forgiving heart.

You mean they are not true followers of the Old Testament (Catholicism, which isn't true Christianity). True Christianity is based on the New Testament only.

The purpose of the law is to establish fair and just rules for all human endeavors, not to extend special benefits to coerce people into living according to biblical tenets.

This is essential. It's time the laws start trying to keep up with reality, rather than trying to dictate what it should be.

It's not okay for children to have more than two parents. It's completely weird and I'm surprised that virtually half of the voters on this board think it's okay.

It will work for the couple itself, and the biological parent who is not part of the couple. Like, two married men and the woman who conceived the kid =)

Republi-cants are stupid. God gave us the ability to love, and say that all people should be treated equal. It's like asking the kid to choose who deserves to have the title of parent, and they should be equal.

You mention God read the first chapter of Romans, and then read the last verse and see what God says about same sex couples and those who support them.

Not everyone believes in yor God and should be forced to follow it's laws.
