Religion shouldn't enter into the presidential race. I think even the Constitution says that religion will not enter into elections. I'll have to check it but I think there is a phrase that is designed to keep it out of elections.
    Found it:
"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."

I don't feel that a religious belief will help or hinder a public office holder, because I don't vote for you because of how you choose to pray. I vote for you to represent me in a larger machine. Your personal views have nothing to do with it.

There is no reason why people should not be afraid to discuss the deep philosophical beliefs behind religion - I think it good when people like Benjamin Wiker try to do this even if they do not do it perfectly.

In this day and age we are forced to discuss candidates religious beliefs because there are so many religions requiring discrimination, outcasting, and even violence against a whole host of different people. We live in an age where so much religion preaches against liberty, freedom and justice for all that we must be certain we don't elect someone who can not uphold the Constitution or the Bill of Rights let alone all the laws that have been written to prevent cruelty, violence, hate, and persecution of a diverse American people. Hatred is using religion as a vehicle in the U.S. like no other country outside the middle east. We have to protect ourselves from the terrorist extremists within. It's sad, but we can't be in denial about it. We'll loose our freedom and our Democracy if we're not careful.

I am answering no for one reason and one reason alone. Your religion is an extremely personal thing to an individual...or at least it should be. By discussing their belief system they then can become targets of people who have nothing better to do than judge others BASED ON A BIAS or a false impression based on ignorance....

***********PLEASE NOTE THAT THE EXAMPLES I AM USING DO NOT EXPRESS MY VIEWS OF ANY OF THESE RELIGIONS.*********** I am Jewish by Birth, was raised around catholic kids and am married to an Atheist. I myself am an hereditary Celtic Pagan Witch.

Example 1. Oh NO he's Jewish he can't be President, He can't have our best interest at heart, he's only trying to be President for the money.

Example 2. I hate Catholics He can't be President, he will encourage the creation of large families because the Catholic Church teaches against Birth control

Example 3. She is Atheist She doesn't even believe in GOD, so she can't be president of OUR Country, because we are a GOD FEARING NATION.

Leave the Religion in the Home where it belongs not on the campaign trail.

If the candidate brings it up as rationale for his or her policy stance, then yes. Remember when Obama said his faith prevented him from supporting gay marriage???? Now that he's thrown his religion under the bus, it appears Rev. Wright is throwing Obama under the bus as well.

Thanks to the idiots in Washington, the US is already a third wsorld country and on it's way to a lesser state if this keeps up. Religion should have no place in evaluating a leader of the masses.

A persons religious beliefs can tell us a lot about them. Are they true to those beliefs, or do they "play" church? It allows us to get an understanding of their character which is extremely important.

I don't think a candidate's religious beliefs should be an issue. However, the Republican's have started bringing up Jeremiah Wright again. I think that makes it fair to bring up Romney's religious beliefs and a closer look at Mormonism. I would rather hear them tell us what they intend to do for the country, but the RW would rather talk about a pastor. So be it, don't complain when the Dems start talking about Romney's faith.

Of course it's fair to discuss them. What wouldn't be fair (or legal) would be to limit office holding to those who follow a certain religion, or believe in a certain God.

I enjoy hearing candidates pretend to agree with the mobs of Christians, or defend their particular nutty brand of Christianity. It's entertaining, and it goes toward helping me decide which of the unscrupulous lying bastards is the least objectional.
