Is Hemp the Same Thing as Marijuana?

ronlevy 2013/01/14 23:58:24
Tho hemp and marijuana are of the same species they're not the same plant. Hemp has almost no THC, the ingredient that induces the high in marijuana, and hemp has been used to produce a wide variety of products that makes it one of the most versatile plants on the planet. If hemp were legalized all its incredible potential could be developed, resulting in a benefit to the economy that no other single item could equal. The ruling clique has successfully confused the public into thinking that hemp is marijuana. It is not a drug-inducing plant at all. However, the real issue isn't THC content or the confusion of identity. It's that growing hemp would produce prosperity and independence for many growers who'd be working for themselves instead of devoting their lives to the Corporate Machine or government. That's why hemp, and marijuana as well, are illegal.

Hemp are strains of cannabis sativa (marijuana) that were bred out of natural landraces of marijuana. Hemp was bred to increase fiber ( stalk) yield. Through the breeding and selecting of plants that grew strong stalks also happen to breed the medicinal qualities out of the plant. Thus hemp does not contain cannabinoids in a high enough concentration to get you high. Medical marijuana strains on the other hand are bred to increase medicinal resins on the flowering tops with no concern for fiber yield since people usually grow medical marijuana to consume and not to make rope out of. Hemp should absolutely not be illegal. Hemp is quite possibly the most useful and versatile, hardy plant on the planet which has so many uses . Hemp is also a superfood, like blueberries, or spinach. I eat it every morning. But its expensive because it needs to be importetd from canada because its illegal to cultivate here which is mind blowingly ridiculous. Also to add, the male plant ...

Also to add, the male plant even a medical marijuana male will not grow buds that get you high. Only the female carries the seeds. The males carry the pollen (or sperm). Just like humans, cannabis is one of the few plants that is dioecious. Meaning there is a male and a female sex to the the plants.
Hemp seed oil can be used in place of petroleum in virtually all products. Bio diesel can be made from hemp. Using hemp seed oil as bio diesel would be the best choice for many reasons. Corn and other food sources would increase the cost of corn as food for people and animals.Hempseed oil can do anything petroleum can do, but cleaner. Hemp seed oil can be made into plastic, foam for cushion or insulation, resins and varnish products, bio diesel, fuel for bbq’s lanterns, oil stoves, etc…

Thanks for your informative comment on hemp. On the surface of it, it really staggers the imagination why hemp is illegal. I mentioned one reason is that many growers would become wealthy and independent of the Corporate/Government complex. Now I see that the petroleum and other major industries would be threatened. It looks like marijuana has been promoted more for legalization than hemp, which is okay, but hemp really has the potential to rev up the economy on all levels. There should be a concerted effort to legalize its growth. There seems to be no logical reason opponents could publicly argue against it.

Neither marijuana nor hemp is a plant. Both are products derived from a plant of the genus Cannabis. Marijuana is a term for the dried buds of a Cannabis strain that is high in THC, whereas hemp describes the fiber products (and nowadays also the oil pressed from the seeds) of Cannabis strains that are typically low in THC, but not necessarily so. It is entirely possible to produce hemp using a high-THC strain, and our hemp-processing ancestors didn't care much about the THC levels of their Cannabis sativa and ruderalis plants. It is only in modern times that we have started to cultivate sativa strains with next to no THC for the hemp industry.
