July was the hottest month on record
in the continental United States, continuing the warmest
January-to-July period since modern record-keeping began in 1895,
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported Wednesday.

The average temperature for July across the continental US was 77.6 degrees F -- 3.3 degrees F above the 20th century average.

The last four 12-month periods have each successively established new records for the warmest period of that length.

In the 12-month span from August 2011-July 2012, every state observed
warmer than average temperatures except Washington state, which was
near average.

A record setting drought continues to plague 63 percent of the 48
contiguous states, according to NOAA's Drought Monitor, with near-record
drought conditions in the Midwest.

According to Jake Crouch, a scientist at NOAA's National Climatic
Data Center, drought and heat continue to play off each other, as dry
soils in the summer tend to drive up daytime temperatures.

"The hotter it gets, the drier it gets, the hotter it gets," Crouch told Reuters.

A statistical climate change analysis
led by NASA's James Hansen, released Monday shows that recent extreme
weather events are not anomalies, but rather the result of a systemic
climate change patterns fueled by man-made global warming.

It’s hot now; and it’ll be cold on another day; and to try and insinuate that humans are the sole reason is ludicrous at best, and dangerous.

If those who subscribe to Global Cooling/Warming/Change were serious about dealing with the issues, instead of fear mongers, who want us to all, go back to living in teepees, then they would start advocating some real solutions, like geoengineering instead of just carbon reduction.

The planet is always either warming or cooling. It's been that way for 4.5 billion years. There has never been a time in Earth's history when the planet climate has been static. A thousand years ago the Vikings were growing crops in Greenland, and England produced the best wine.

As for this being the hottest July on record, we are .2 degrees warmer than the second hottest in 1937, and we have dramatically cooled since then. And this is only as long as they've been keep records in North America, which is a fraction of an eye blink on the geologic clock.

Al Gore's book erroneously concludes that higher carbon in the atmosphere throughout global history has lead to global warming, which science has debunked. In fact, higher carbon in the atmosphere generally follows a warming trend. Al Gore himself, does nothing to practice what he preaches, he just wants the rest of us to do it. Oh, and don't forget, he is very heavily invested financially in a move to "cap and trade". So if we actually have to start trading carbon credits on the global market, Al Gore stands to make millions. Al Gore is a fraud with an agenda.

The climate is changing, for sure. The climate has never, in the history of the world, NOT been changing. Sometimes warming and sometimes cooling. We're still incredibly cooler than we were only a thousand years ago.

Yes, we should be good stewards of our planet, but we should not gut our infrastructure and our global economy on this hoax called "Human Caused Global Warming".

The bottom line, don't listen to Al Gore. Research this yourself and use your own ability to reason and think the issue through with an open mind.

We have a planet going through some changes and it happens to be on the warm side. For how long we really do not know and all the BS scare tactics need to stop. Give us some plausible accounts that we can use and work with to understand.

This not a man made condition it is the planets cycle of its life which is billions of years old and really hard to have people know how much it does and has done in its lifetime.

CO2 levels and temperature have risen since pre-industrial times, but the warming directly due to CO2 is only a third of the observed warming. The theory assumes no other major influence on temperature changed, so the effect of the CO2 must have been amplified threefold, presumably by changes in the atmosphere due to humidity and clouds.

There is no observational evidence for this amplification, but it is nonetheless built into all the models. Sceptics point out that if the extra humidity simply forms extra clouds, then there would be no amplification.

If the CO2 theory of global warming is right, the climate models should predict the climate fairly well. If the CO2 theory is wrong, because there is another, larger driver of the temperature, then the climate models will perform indifferently.

According to the latest data from mankind’s best and latest instruments, from impeccable sources, the climate models are doing poorly.

Call it what you like. Geological changes of Earth will never stop. Current Continents will sink as they did thousands of years ago. Weather changes can go from hot spells to freezing spells. Even human evolution will not stop. Man made pollution does not help this matter, but is not the major cause.

Well since we've done nothing about it, and keep pumping more CO2 into the atmosphere I'd say yes it's here to stay. It'll get a lot worse though.

Why not consider the study of the weather?? At one time, there was a warm period in Europe of approx. 400years (before that, it was a tad cool) Europe prospered----then----the Little Ice Age showed up and stayed around until the 1800's, really put a bite in civilization! Weather change is mostly because of the Sun's output and the earths orbit. We contribute a small portion to it. It'll change again. Remember your history and "The Year Without A Summer' caused by a volcano spewing tons of sulfur, etc. into the atmosphere. Just wait, it'll change again.

It's a very well-funded global warming denial scam and the key point in its success is that many/most people *want* to believe that we're not trashing the climate - that way, they don't have to do anything about it. You've seen many people on forums like this reeling in horror at even having to change a light bulb, let alone anything more substantial about their lives, in order to avert climate chaos. That's why I'm not optimistic that we'll do anything significant any time soon.

It'll take a massive turn around in how people think about climate change. This drought and heatwave might be the wake up call for America. The fallout from this drought will be felt globally. It might just wake people up. Plus the Richard Muller study. A high profile Koch funded skeptic proving himself wrong is pretty catastrophic to the denial industry.
