The free lunch program that is supposed to feed kids in need is really just a free lunch for anyone who shows up. Do you think it's a waste of tax payers' money?

FOXNEWS.COM reports:
Every summer across the country, more than 3 million children eat for free at more than 30,000 sites, from schools to recreation centers to migrant worker camps. It's a valuable resource for families who are struggling -- but, critics say, a convenient freebie for those who aren't.

Another Christian Conservative stupid comment. In you feeble mind, all children who need help don't deserve to be here. I bet you're also against abortion. What a great humanitarian, GOP qualified!

Why do you resort to generalities and personal attacks? Did you even consider the ultimate good as opposed to the temporary good? Does it not occur to you that since you have to resort to such tactics it shows your own ignorance and invalidates your claims? People don't mind that children that need the help get it, what the problem is that the schools/officials don't really protect against fraud of the program. Many people send their children to school to earn a free lunch while they go buy new cars and big screens. How is that needy?
The only ignorance in abortion is allowing it to happen. How can you say you care about hungry children but not dead children? That's the pure and simple definition of hypocrisy

And why not work with those with whom you disagree to find a constructive solution rather than perpetuate the portions of the system that are not working? You have made a determination that is unfair and not indicative of reality

"If you can't feed your own kids then you shouldn't have had any."

Agreed, but it's too late for that. Children cannot be unborn, as convenient as that may be. There is the option of just killing them - would you support that, to cull the ranks of the "useless"?

"Teach a child that people other than the parents have to take care of them then they will grow up to be as useless as you."

If you don't feed them (and thus teach them that lesson), they may not grow up at all, so I guess that solves the "problem" of teaching them to rely on others. Or they won't be able to do well in school and they will end up relying on welfare anyway.

Your logic only applies to a portion of those on the program. I agree that those who are in need of it should get it, but what people want is accountability for those that could in all reality take care of their own, but instead we use the hardships of some to perpetuate the advantageous of some parents. Reform of the system, not reward the systematic

Read last years OMB that outlines expenditures. Having worked for the feds for 30 years I have seen more money pissed away on stupidity than will ever be lost on that program for feeding children. That is the reason I get incensed because the average person does not have a clue nor do they want to about the amount of money that goes down the drain but they pick and choose about humanity programs as if every other person was ripping them personally off. I the corporate bailout this last year was 90 billion dollars where the hell is the outcry? No lets pick on some small ass number that amounts to nothing and whine about it.

    So what?
Let a 5 year old learn to cook herself breakfast at 6 or 7 in the morning and pray she doesn't get seriously injured or cause a fire?
These are children in school that they are talking about not adults.

Oh yeah because circumstances never change. They were doing great when they had the kids and then years later hit hard times. But that's their fault for not knowing that would happen at conception.

No, we should not cultivate a society that relies on entitlement that will ultimately lead more children in the future to grow up in poverty and reliance on government

And everyone gets their choice of a puppy or kitten?

Guess you didn't bother reading the article explaining that the program is being abused and is pretty much a free lunch for anyone who shows up?

Why don't we just plant wheel-barrows full of money at every street corner so people can help themselves to pay their utilities, buy a new pair of shoes or help make the payment on their Escalade?

They would not count as HUNGRY CHILDREN
You make all sorts of generalised statements. Do you really think there are no actual hungry children in your country? Do you seriously think that every single unemployed person is a moocher? Do you think that a child of an actual moocher should not be fed because his parents shouldn't have had him in the first place? If not, then why on earth object to children being given free food?

You enjoy feeling superior to people struggling... keep it up until you lose your job and have to rely on handouts for once in your life.

And you are dramatizing to allow for people to abuse the good will of man. There is no problem with feeding the hungry, but there is a problem that allows for any persons, needy or not, to enjoy a free lunch. Many of those kids that take it don't need it, it is the greed of the parents who are unwilling to feed their own children with their own earnings. If people were not allowed this, then they would not have a choice but to use their own resources. When was the last time you did something to help the hungry children of America, or the world for that matter? What gives you the superiority you so obviously harbor over the practical? Why do you generalize thinking that people don't care about hungry children because they don't want to pay for the new cars and big screens of their parents sending their children to mooch off taxpayers? How does that create a sense of personal responsibility that would allow for those children to grow up and take care of their own children? Struggles create not only a will to succeed but a will to help others succeed. Don't be so shortsighted and cynical

I don't live in America - sort your own children out
I do however volunteer at a FOOD BANK! Does that count? I'm also a Social Worker who refers families to other food banks.

Foodbanks in this country don't have credit checks on them!
Most have a 3 use policy (i.e. you can come three times without any questions) and after that someone like me gets called in because either 1) the problems are deeper than a bad few weeks and they need more specialist help
    2) they could be cheating the system

But the reality is that VERY few people cheat the system. Would you? Would any of your friends? It's practically stealing, and those that steal would rather steal better stuff than a can of beans (or a sandwich and piece of fruit). There's also the *shame* that comes with needing to accept handouts.
