The free lunch program that is supposed to feed kids in need is really just a free lunch for anyone who shows up. Do you think it's a waste of tax payers' money?

FOXNEWS.COM reports:
Every summer across the country, more than 3 million children eat for free at more than 30,000 sites, from schools to recreation centers to migrant worker camps. It's a valuable resource for families who are struggling -- but, critics say, a convenient freebie for those who aren't.

Hungry children can't learn well, and being hungry and broke is not their fault

"Signs around the district headquarters advertise the fact that there is no eligibility requirement, and invite all kids to take advantage."

No one is ABUSING the summer lunch program, it is advertised as available to anyone who wants it.

You should try reading the article first.

    Not according to my2cents.
But what do I know. I just handed out the lunch forms and never saw anyone turned down.

If you had been fed, you may have learned to read.

That doesn't even make sense to me. What does my ability to read have to do with me being fed by a stupid program.

Oops, I screwed up. The "read" comment was meant for Cognito22.

    My bad. Apology extended.

..... is this the part you mean ...

" There's no income requirement, no enrollment, no paperwork," said Monique Stovall, nutrition director for the San Juan Unified School District outside Sacramento. "All children in the community in that age range can come eat with us for free."

Aren't our school taxes supposed to educate, not feed ?

I don't agree with what they're doing, I'm just disputing the notion that people are abusing this system. They are not, they are being offered free lunches.

I does seem a waste of taxpayer money, but that's bleeding heart liberals for you. I'm not one.

Free lunch programs aren't just limited to the summer.
You really should be more open-minded about the topic and not limit yourself to just a summer program.

Another Government program with good intensions run amok. Be prepared for Obamacare to join the club. It feeds itself.

Snot nosed kid not out of high school calling people dumb? Grow up and get some life experience so you know what the hell we're talking about before spouting off.

What I'm saying is you, and everyone and their grandmother just wants to complain about the state of the economy constantly. Yet you do nothing about it, you just complain and bitch about at you like computer desk. Yeah it's bad, but you can't constantly and only blame the president. He's on person, one person that does not run the entire country alone and one man who does not run the world. He doesn't decide gas prices, he doesn't deice the price food. Yeah I know you probably weren't complaining about any of that crap. This was more so directed towards other people on her,. I just happen to see you complained about Obamacare and jumped in to attack.

Even if you grant the premise, you can't have a program that doesn't even *try* to keep out all but those it *says* it is trying to reach.

This is another government handout. It can have only one objective: votes.

Oh God. Feed the poor children at school. What a preposterous idea. Just let those moochers work in a factory if they want to get by.

While you have a good suggestion, there are no factories left in the United States.

The program is more about political kickbacks than about kids.
