The free lunch program that is supposed to feed kids in need is really just a free lunch for anyone who shows up. Do you think it's a waste of tax payers' money?

FOXNEWS.COM reports:
Every summer across the country, more than 3 million children eat for free at more than 30,000 sites, from schools to recreation centers to migrant worker camps. It's a valuable resource for families who are struggling -- but, critics say, a convenient freebie for those who aren't.

Hungry children can't learn well, and being hungry and broke is not their fault

You state: “That is what the government is doing don't blame anyone else.”

Actually it's the Democrats *BUYING VOTE*by giving away the resources of others.

You state: “You all need to get off your pity party. After the government takes your money, it is no ones business what they do with it.”

Sorry, but you are *WRONG*. The Government under the Constitution is to be the servant of the people, not the people servant of the Government.
Why the Government does with the *PEOPLES' MONEY* is indeed the *PEOPLES' BUSINESS*.

You state: “Any more than I can when I tithe to my church. They can spend it how they wish it is no longer mine.”

There is a *HUGE* difference: If you don't tithe to your church, will the church take your home? Will the church literally take your money at gun point and lock you in a cell?

So why do you believe the parents *TODAY* should be entitled to *MY MONEY*, while you and your parents were able to raise 18 children without it?
Encouraging the poor to stay poor, by making poverty "not so bad" only serves to make the welfare recipients dependent on Government and voting Democrat, while victimizes those the money is taken from for their support.

"The best way to help the poor is to make them uncomfortable in their poverty"

You are a selfish person. Vote Republican that is all you can do and calling people names doesn't help the situation. Bad mouthing the poor gets you nowhere. They raised 13 not eighteen but they would have if they had them. This is a different day and time.

You state: “You are a selfish person.”

Not at all, I'm just not a dumbass that seeks to keep the poor in poverty by giving them the money of strangers for *NOTHING*, as you do.

You state: “Vote Republican that is all you can do and calling people names doesn't help the situation.”

Voting Republican helps, look at the high gas prices when Democrats control congress which directly affects food prices as well, but that won't fix it all.
Referring to someone who drives a truck for a living as a “truck driver” is not “name calling”.
Nor is referring to deadbeats as deadbeats “name calling”.

You state: “Bad mouthing the poor gets you nowhere.”

Making the poor comfortable in their poverty only serves to *KEEP* them poor and dependent.

You state: “They raised 13 not eighteen but they would have if they had them.”

Pay attention and/or learn to count.
You stated: “Also I am 76 and raised five children and never took a dime from the government in my life. My parents raised 13 children without government help.” and I stated: “So why do you believe the parents *TODAY* should be entitled to *MY MONEY*, while you and your parents were able to raise 18 children without it?”
    5+13 = 18, not 13.

“This is a different day and time.”

Yes this is 2012, things are *MUCH EASIER* today than they ever were before.
Children still need food, clothing and shelter, and it is entirely doable today as it ever was.

You need to reread your post. My parents and I are different people. Yes, We had eighteen in all. I wrote my parents had 13 and I had five.. Totals eighteen. Why it is your money? No, it was money you gave the government and they use it to suit themselves. We even send food and money to poor nations. So get over it..At lease we are feeding and housing those less fortunate. Jesus said we would always have the poor.Yes, children need food, clothing and shelter and that is what the government is doing with every ones money not your alone.

Get over it for neither party is in your favor and are only interested in their own welfare and how they can become richer at the voters expense. Romney or Obama nothing will change very much. Money and Fame is all they are after. Poor will become poorer and richer will become richer.

The Republicans *ARE* simply the lesser of 2 *EVILS*.
Whether you vote for the *GREATER* evil or the *LESSER* evil: it still comes down to your *STILL* voting for *EVIL*.

The rich will keep getting richer, until they pull out their resources because of the grinding taxation to support the vote breeding schemes.

The poor will stay poor, until they are no longer comfortable in their poverty and accept personal responsibility to change their condition.

Yes, Our government waste lots of money but who is able to stop them? We can not do so even by voting in a different party. What has been done will stay done in any government. All governments are evil but we have to have them I guess.

They why aren't you gripping about the money sent overseas to other countries that hate us?. Gripe about all the money our government has wasted over the years. Bet you will not turn down Social Security and medicare when and if you get old enough. It is not wasted if people are homeless and hungry. Right now there are more people without jobs than those who have. There are Veterans who are homeless. I don't see Obama doing anything about that.

You state: “They why aren't you gripping about the money sent overseas to other countries that hate us?.”

Because that was not the *TOPIC* of this post, now was it?
    Please try and pay attention.

You state: “Gripe about all the money our government has wasted over the years. Bet you will not turn down Social Security and medicare when and if you get old enough.”

Are you senile? If so, I will quit expecting you to think and reason, and simply pray for you.
My money has been confiscated for those ponzi schemes, claiming “for my retirement”.
    Big difference.

You state: “It is not wasted if people are homeless and hungry.”

Then Soup kitchens are the way to go, just like when the people actually *NEEDED* help.
It was good enough then, it's good enough now.

You state: “Right now there are more people without jobs than those who have. There are Veterans who are homeless. I don't see Obama doing anything about that.”

He is why so many are in the condition they are in.
Obama has destroyed the economy by being an incompetent bungler who has never accomplished anything in his life.

Making the poor comfortable in their poverty, will *NEVER* create a good results.

Making them comfortable, only encourages them to stay in their condition of poverty.
NOBODY makes changes in their life without reason to change.

I don't think its just for anyone who shows up. It is my understanding that kids who take advantage of the program have to be qualified.

And if its truly an issue that persons are taking advantage of the program when they are not eligible....then the critics need to get off their fat sorry asses and make the cheaters pay up and make sure it stops.

Denying healthy food to children whose families cannot provide adequate nutrition because of a few cheaters....is wrong. You do not punish the whole because of the egregious acts of a few.

Frankly...I would rather see my tax dollars spent to feed kids at school, then pay some congressman's expense account or for their "fact finding mission".

I am not willing to take the chance...that the child who is caused to suffer for a fools cheating...will not mature into a highly intelligent and productive citizen who does great things!!

The schools are supposed to have lists of the kids who have qualified....if things are falling through the cracks...its not the kids fault....its the functionaries error or laziness. I'm like you..extremely conservative....but I cannot justify for one second allowing a child in this country to go hungry!
  • Super_D... Dana 2012/07/09 10:41:58

I'm not proposing letting the kids go hungry. We don't have the money to subsidize those who are illegally abusing the system either. If we investigate insteading of allowing fraud, that would still be a better use of the money. It only takes a simple collection of paycheck stubs and investigating reported or suspected fraud fully.
