Is calling a person Illegal as in illegal immigrant a racial slur or hate crime?

I'm surprised liberals don't have an issue with calling people aliens too. Alien sounds a bit extraterrestrial doesn't it? Calling someone an illegal alien sounds like you're saying they're a monster from outer space.

I don't know who is running his campaign, But I think it is really going wrong. and to me watching him now he looks like an agry man, more like a college radical at spraul hall. sure it attacts some, but turns off a lot of people, He is getting over exposed, I know the MSM wants to get his picture out there and his words, but now I believe his words are hurting him. I live in the land of libs, california, I heard today, not what I heard 4 years ago.

It's neither one or the other. It is simply a Federal Crime against all foreigner intruders and anyone who is an illegal immigrants will be apprehended and prosecuted for such crimes. That's all it mean...... PBWY

Other usages includes alien land or alien language. A person belonging to a group can feel alienated.

like i said, i understand the reasoning behind it i just don't like it, i understand why people use it, i don't, i call them illegal immigrants (or asylum seekers when necessary).

its like the term 'boat people' in australia, its reasoning is fair enough (they came here on a boat) and its true but the phrase has been used badly making it offensive rather then descriptive.

We don't worry about offending criminals in the US. We have a legal immigration process even for refugees or people who seek asylum. My advice to those who are offended by the word illegal is don't get involved in crime.

I'm sorry, but an op-ed piece by a person is not an argument for or against anything, it's an opinion. I can appreciate that you have a similar opinion to this person, but there have to be borders which have to be controlled in order to ensure welfare and safety of those residents within those borders or else you'd have no order to society. We've long since evolved past wondering herds of nomads.

Alien just means something is very different or from elsewhere. A traveler can find the environment very alien or unfamiliar. The substance was alien to this part of the world. Relating Alien to a creature from outer space is a contemporary usage. Besides how do you know if we encounter someone from another world that they'd like be what we've imagined in movies and novels.

It is an accurate assessment of their citizenship condition. They are not immigrants(that implies gong through a process), they are not aliens(we know where they are coming from), they are illegals, it is the most accurate word to use.
