ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A 13-year-old was handcuffed and hauled off to a juvenile detention for burping in class, according to a lawsuit filed against an Albuquerque school principal, a teacher and school police officer.

The boy was transported without his parents being notified in May after he "burped audibly" in PE class and his teacher called a school resource officer to complain he was disrupting her class. The lawsuit also details a separate Nov. 8 incident when the same student was forced to strip down to his underwear while five adults watched as he was accused of selling pot to another student; the boy was never charged.

Jesus. What the hell is this country coming to? Burping once in class is not a disruption, burping whenever the teacher is trying to instruct the class is. This sounds like this kid was a target for some reason.

While I dont think that is 100% true, there is a lot of truth to this statement as prisons have become prime recruiting grounds for gangs and other lawless organizations and the environment is perfect for breaking a person down into a real criminal.

Sounds like that teacher needs to get laid or something. She's just a bit uptight if she has some kid carted off by the cops for burping. I mean, seriously. Make him run laps or something, but calling the police is a bit much.

What about the whole story? A kid that burps in class once or twice is not punished. However, if the kid does it very loudly and continually and it's clear it's to disrupt the class, the kid will be taken to the principal's office. If the kid is on "probation" at sschool for being disruptive, he or she will only go to a juvenile detention center if he/she has maxed out the allowable number of serious offenses for the semester (usually around 20). Before this happens, parents are warned by schools (as a matter of law) that future disruptive behavior would result in being moved to another behavior modification school.

I don't see how they can unless their State's Education Board allows it. And from what I've seen they have in place in most states a policy of only using detention schools as a last resort.

It happens a lot more often than you think. Hell, we even have children being arrested for doodling almost 2 years ago. https://www.google.com/search...

By any standard, the schools have gotten out of control.

regardless, you dont arrest children for something that isnt a crime. Detention? Kick them out of school? Maybe. Arrest, hell no.

Police are suppose to be out their stopping rapists or something. Not kids being kids.
