It would be better spent working out WHY soldiers have these thoughts and preventing it that way...

According to statistics, the army currently has the highest rate of suicide among soldiers ever, with 116 U.S. soldiers dying of suspected suicide this year alone. So, the U.S. Army wants to change its reputation... with a nasal spray.
The U.S. Army has given a grant to a scientist who will develop a nasal spray specifically intended to rid suicidal thoughts. According to Mashable, the spray would "deliver an extra dose of thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH)," which is a drug that causes a "euphoric, calming, antidepressant effect." Do you think the anti-suicide spray is ethical?

It is know wonder there is a high rate of suicides because from all accounts from what I have been told it is brutal from the training to actually entering enemy territory .
My worry with this spray is the same as any anti depressant xxx how long before they come out and decide that its not making them feel better and that tests prove it could actually make the feelings of suicide even stronger xxx SEROXAT is a prime example of this given to people including me and then finding out on WATCHDOG that these pills can bring on suicidal thoughts and could actually give you thoughts of harming others xxx
Love Full metal jacket especially the scene where Leonard loses his mind
On the other hand, if the spray has yet to be tested, or has shown to have even worse side effects, then ethics comes into play.
Apart from that, I agree with the current top opinion. We should be trying to find what is causing the suicides and remove them. It would certainly be cheaper than creating a brand new drug.
