Is adding $1.6 trillion to the national debt for the F-35 program a good idea?

The Pentagon has plans to buy 2,443 of them over a span of many years, at a cost of $661 million per plane. Canada has plans to buy 65 planes, for a price of $461 million each. The total cost of the U.S. purchase is slightly more than $1.6 trillion.
Every dollar spent on there planes either means a dollar less in spending that is available for other purposes such as fixing our infrastructure, or an extra dollar in taxes, or an extra dollar added to the debt. If the program were to be cancelled, we could spend $500 billion on fixing roads and bridges and our interstate highways, and give Americans a $500 billion tax cut, and pay down the debt by $500 billion, and STILL have $100 billion left over.

I am sick of the Military Industrial Complex getting whatever they want from DC. Nobody on God's green earth has the fire power the US does. The Halliburton's/Blackwater's/Xe's of this country have made bundles of money from the endless wars they have talked the GOP into engaging in.

BTW, why is Canada getting these planes cheaper than the US? People, wake up & smell the coffee. The Pentagon is going to say anything to get a new weapon system. Just remember, the Pentagon is in the business of WAR!

The money wasted on these weapon systems could rebuild this country. After 30+ years of Reagonomics there is no "fat" on the governments bones. The Pentagon needs to go on a financial fast so we can do "nation building" at home.

We need to take care of our infrastructure and cut military spending that tends to put us in places we do not belong.

In the grand scheme, its actually kinda cheap...Everybody wants freedom but nobody wants to defend it. Its no different than sending your kid to Karate class instead of chess class. Sure, chess may him more intelligent but Karate will make him safer in a fight. What more important? Your child (or country) being to negotiate its way out of getting its ass kicked or a being so powerful it can confidently walk away from the fight all together...or kick the bully's ass if the bully won't back down.

I'm ready to get the USA out of the war games business. If we need to gear up for war - a serious threat, not the manufactured ones of Iraq or Grenada, we can do so. We did so during WWI and WWII.

Fighter jets are for fighting other jets --- who on earth are our jets going to be directed against? Maybe Iran, maybe N. Korea, maybe Syria. So, I guess we need some fighter jets. 1.6 trillion worth? No way.

We don't really need a lot of aircraft to defeat a band of insurgents armed with home made bombs and AK47 rifles. I would think the refurbished C-54s and B 52s would do just as well and probably better to drop some napalm on these desert rats. Once they infest our
cities, we aren't going to be dropping bombs anyway, so maybe we need to spend the money on something else, like a fence across our southern border?

Is there an explanation (other than the obvious) why the U.S. will pay $200 million more for each plane than Canada?

Egypt held an election. They won. They call themselves the Muslim Brotherhood, but they are a whole lot less radical than the other options over there. It is in our interest to give them that support.
Among other things, they support women's rights and freedom of religion for all people.

"It makes no sense to make this attack on women," she said on KBBI AM 890 Public Radio's Coffee Table program, according to the Homer News. "If you don't feel this is an attack, you need to go home and talk to your wife and your daughters." - Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) Yeah! She's a REPUBLICAN!
