ABCNEWS.GO.COM reports:
So-called “sin taxes” exist for smoking, gambling and alcohol, so Illinois State Sen. Toi Hutchinson says it’s about time there was a “skin tax” for strip clubs. Hutchinson, a Democrat, introduced a bill in the state legislature on Feb. 7 that proposes a $5 tax for the entry of each customer admitted into a live adult entertainment facility. Called the “Live Adult Entertainment Facility Tax Act,” the proceeds would go to a proposed fund, the Sexual Assault Prevention Fund, with the state’s treasury.

The cigarette ones I don't mind... but I don't see the "externality" we're mitigating at a strip club. Not all Democrats or even Democratic politicians support this and I doubt it will go anywhere.

Conservatives particularly evangelicals would ban strip clubs all together --so don't talk about "regulation." They should pay taxes like any business, and if they create problems they should pay to mitigate those problems... that's just accountibility. But you'd better prove that they're creating said cost. If so I'm not gonna whine about a 5 dollar tax when I'm droppin $200 bucks for basically nothing.

Reagan raised taxes 11 times, so let's not dig up his corpse for this one.

Actually it's pretty fair... if they raised their cover to $10 more no one would whine about it as long as the money is going to some greasy dude in the back, but $5 back to the community to be used for something good and it's the end of the world? I don't think so.

Actually.. it PASSED.... with flying colors, and is now the law.

A head tax - - paid at the door, along with a couple of local tax's .. so the State, County and City now make a couple of bucks off of every person who visits a strip club in IL.

As for as Strip Clubs and Conservatives... Her in MO, it is now illegal for a girl to be nude in a strip club, be closer then 3 feet, and no strip club can be open after midnight, or serve alcohol. But we pay no tax's to be there! The absolute opposite of IL, where the girls are totally nude, The sit on your lap, the beer flows freely and you pay your tax's at the door.

Really? So with liberals you get flowing beer and chicks on your lap but you have to pay $5 more... and with Conservatives you gotta stay 3 feet away and they have to wear a parka. Guess who I'd vote for!

There's a no nudity at strip clubs in TN. So basically it's a lap dance -in underwear club.
Now THAT's government telling you what to do --and make no mistake that's Conservatives.

    Yea...

LIbs don't care what you do, as long as you pay for it.

Cons do care what you do, and won't let you pay for it.

I live in MO.. but I go to the strip clubs in IL. Cost more, but it is way worth it! :)

And a funny thing :: most of the cars in the IL strip club parking lots have MO plates on them.

and NO.. the strippers in MO did not lose any money - - they just got jobs in IL strip clubs.

The Sin taxes are a perfect example of the Government trying to force you to do what they want. Even if an activity is legal they want to make you pay for it, with the argument that it is for the good of the community.

I will bet that if this is passed the funds will be used for things other than the stated purpose, and once passed it will become impossible to get rid of.

Glad I don't live in Illinois.

Ronald Reagan’s summation of a Democrat’s view on the economy: “If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.”

Somewhat appropriate for a strip club if you ask me.

Not necessary. The establishment and employees are already taxed and the money earned by the prospective patron is already taxed. There is no legitimate reasoning behind adding yet another fee. Everything that is enjoyed by somebody has to be quadruple taxed? I don't think so.

When Reagan doubled the SS deduction they didn't like that. Also they don't like higher sales taxes. Basically Dems don't like taxes that hit middle class and poor people harder than they hit rich people. That's why we voted for a guy who lowered our taxes.

Really? I don't think that extra 5 bucks is going to stop ANYONE. If you're going to a strip club and they added $5 to their cover are you really gonna go home crying at that point? That's like 1 coke.

It's actually taking money away from the dancers. At least in my state they work for tips. I have known a few dancers and some of them were single moms, others were paying their way through college. It's one of the few jobs that a young woman can get that pays very well and support a family pay their way through school.

Believe me I feel for those girls. er... so to speak... They make a TON. my ex gf used to take home over $400 a night easy back in the day. They won't even notice $5 door charge.

It means whoever is going to the club will have less to spend. The person might buy less dances or maybe they will still have the same number as before but then they will have less to spend in the economy afterwards. If that one $5 coke is multiplied by 20 customers then that adds up to a days wages for alot of people.

I don't go to strip clubs but I oppose higher taxes on principle.

Plus this tax would directly impact single Moms.

End the economic war on working women!

    support single moms
