We already have gun control in America, and it obviously does not work.

Interestingly, the BIG event in the recent debate (Connecticut) is a perfect example of how gun control would NOT have prevented that event from occurring. HE didn't buy the guns, his mother did. It was HER fault for leaving them where an obviously unstable person could get a hold of them. If anyone thinks that any additional gun restrictions could prevent this from happening then you're a fool.

The guns have not changed, the people have. The guns are out of Pandora's box and there is no way to get them back in. A law would only take guns away from law abiding citizens. Look at the demographics. Most of the yes votes are from outside the US where they don't have to live with this danger. After doing the numbers of just the USA, it is 95% no. If other countries want gun control, it is not my place to say anything. And it is not there place to say what my country does either.

In New York city only guns are owned by the cops, muggers, hit men and thugs.
And there are a lot more of them than cops.

That nut in CT could just as easily drove his car down the sidewalk when the kids were getting on or off the buses. Guns make the scene all the more violent but when they are outlawed only criminals will have guns and nuts will just find another way to kill.

In China several times over the past few years and on the same day as CT massacre a man ran into a school and randomly started stabbing kids.

Should we outlaw cars and knives too?

We need to find better ways to treat mental illness. It is ironic that Connecticut has one of the strictest law to commit anybody and Adam Lanza was about to be committed by his mother before he went on a shooting spree at the elementary school.

NO! and the Dialogue would include , Lock up your Ammo separate from your Guns! This would eliminate many senseless deaths by Mentally unbalanced .Parents, Family,communities of these individuals need to take up the slack of responsibility to keep watch ! We need more concealed carry folks that work in Schools who are trained , willing and ready prepared . During the riots in the 60s at my High School , we had an armed Policeman who kept things stable .

The USA did get a lot of the scientist and technology from Germany's ruins.
The rocket scientest Wernher von Braun (V2 Rockets) was captured by the Americans and immediately put in charge of furthing his rocket program but in America. Without him we would not have had a space program for many years and definately would not have had a moon landing.

heck, if they really wanted to kill kids, wouldn't they make it more of spectical... like the Texas university shootings back in the 60's? Just take a sniper position and start shooting as they get off the buss or do it at recess... all this "shootings" are done inside a building with no opportunity for "real" people to see!!!

With everyone having video capacity, how come there are NO independent shots? Most schools have video surveilance... when will these be released?

Mall parking lots and most intersections in America are also video taped. No video will ever see the light of day. I was also reading that the Aurora shooters father and the CT shooters father are on the supeana list for the one trillion dollar banking fraud investigation. And the two kids that were stabbed to death in the NY bathtub by their nanny, their father was an investigavie reported covering the bank fraud.

More gun laws will just take guns out of the hands of honest citizens and subject them to more violent crimes by crooks (who by definition don't care what the laws are anyway).

Besides, "gun control" should just be "hitting what you are aiming at" anyway...

Point, most people do not realize that so called Assault weapons are just a cosmetic look, and that many semi-autos can look military or standard issue . Stricter gun-control would not have prevented the massacre at Sandy Hook. The guns that were used, were purchased legally - and by one of the victims, the mother of Adam Lanza.
We should address this matter by improving our mental healthcare system, not by preventing people from owning guns. Additional restrictions on gun ownership will only benefit the criminal element in society and the government. It is the quintessential red-herring.

Absolutely! No military-style weapons should be legal to own, manufacture, import, or sell. Add to that extended ammunition clips. Who needs a clip with more than 10 bullets? Nobody unless they are out to do evil.

Just listened to the NRA press conference. Chicken littles only talked - no questions - and their solution? Arm the teachers and put armed guards in all schools. WOW! Let's see - let's get Congress to pass legislation that requires and funds armed guards at all schools. (Oh yeah - I mention that the NRA has an excellent progam to train guards and teachers, etc. - MORE money for the NRA and gun production). Let's not forget that the Republicans are hell-bent on "cutting spending" to states, doing away with the Dept. of Education, etc. etc. Soooooooooooo - the NRA's response is to place armed guards at schools at tax-payers expense while gun manufacturers continue to make $billions from the production and sale of assault/military style weapons.

The so-called NRA press conference was nothing more than an advertisement drumming up more business for the NRA! What a disgrace.

I don't disagree that in this day and age we do need armed guards at schools - a sad state of affairs for the supposedly "greatest" nation on earth. I think the gun manufacturers should have a tax levied on them that would pay for an armed guard at every school. THAT would be good legislation!

I have not viewed the NRA Press Conference - and don't plan to - because I already suspected they would not demand gun-ownership restrictions. That would be like the auto industry insisting that the government impose greater fuel-efficiency standards for the guzzlers they like to produce. It "ain't" gonna happen.

Our nation is sick... and we can trace this sickness back to Reagan's decision to (gut) our mental healthcare system.

The second ammendment was passed to protect us from our own government...when government takes away our rights to own the type of guns that they supply to our own military what comes next? We can not trust those on the left to look out for our best interests. If they had their way, none of us would own guns...just the government and police...the left is not to be trusted will controlling guns. I picked up my own AR15 yesterday along with 3 thirty round clips and 500 rounds ammunition...added to my shotgun and two 40mm hand guns I will protect myself and my family...I don't need government to do that for me. When I hear someone breaking into my house I will call 911 after the problem has been stopped...not before and hoping they can get there in time to save my family...
