I'm a legal American citizen and I must show my ID when:

1. Pulled over by the police.

2. Making purchases on my department store credit card.

3. When I show up for a doctor's appointment.

4. When filling out a credit card or loan application.

5. When applying for or renewing a driver's license or passport.

6. When applying for any kind of insurance.

7. When filling out college applications.

8. When donating blood.

9. When obtaining certain prescription drugs.

10. When making some debit purchases, especially

if I'm out of state.

11. When collecting a boarding pass for airline or train travel.

I'm sure there are more instances, but the point is that we citizens of the USA are required to prove who we are nearly every day!

Why should people in this country illegally, be exempt!!!!!

Why shouldn't we guard our borders as closely as every other country in the world

country illegally exempt guard borders closely country world nbspnbsp arizona

Yes, we citizens have to show our ID's under the circumstances that you list. However, in most of those instances, we do NOT have to show citizenship papers, ie: birth certificate or passport. There are times when all people, citizens or not, have to show citizenship ID's -- such as applying for certain loans or bank accounts, and when traveling, etc. But I have NEVER been asked for my birth certificate at the doctor's office or the pharmacy. A driver's license is enough. Whoever is stopped for a motor vehicle violation is required to show a driver's license and registration. That goes for citizens, immigrants, legal or not, and visitors - everybody. I don't understand where you get the idea that illegal immigrants are "exempt," that they don't have to provide applicable documentation, appropriate to the circumstances, the same as everyone.

Love the poster! Only illegal immigrants have something to fear and they *should* fear Arizona's law - they are criminals who are stealing benefits, jobs, entitlements, etc. from law-abiding citizens and legal immigrants!

sent them back from whence they came---either do it the right way or no way at all!!!!!

THe borders should be open, and we should stop social welfare programs. People should be responsible for themselves.

unless you really have somthing to hind why would any one be afraid to show a legal I.D.?

So why don't you let the government put cameras in every room of your house? I mean, if you have nothing to hind (HIDE), then you shouldn't mind.

Thats just it,if we're innocent of any crime,Why does the Government even think they have the right to stalk and harass you then?Yet thats NOTHING like the Government asking you for a LEGAL I.D.,just to prove who you are! But we sure don't want the Government looking for evidence of a crime, before any crime has even been commited if thats what you mean

I totally agree, however the federal immigration laws need changing as the AZ law does not allow people to be stopped when they have not committed a further crime. It simply does not take the problem away and is not a complete solution. The real solution is that USA citizens allow a freedom right to be taken away, so spot checks can be made on all citizens and not profiled.

Then There is a need to build an Iron curtain on both borders Mexican and Canadian to stop illegals getting in.

Oh my that would be not unlike a fascist or communist state. Oh I can see the problem can you?

Hats off to your examples. There is no reason that individuals choosing to enter this country illegally should be granted the same rights as those who enter after going through the proper channels - and obtaining legal documents. I see it as nothing more than wanting the reward without having to work and/or wait for it.

Maybe these illegals need to face the possibility of being deported to a country that doesn't share a border with us.

I'll drink to that!!!!! We get carded all the time and have to show documents. So what's the problem with THEM doing it? Simple!!!! They don't want to get caught!! At least I'm a legal citizen who doesn't screw the system and leech off of everything I can get. I have to earn every last bit of what I have. SO CAN THEY. I'm tired of them getting a free ride while the rest of us pay out the hoohaw not only for ourselves, but for THEM too. Enough already. GO ARIZONA!!!!

    Ever hear of Amendment IV?

Why do you hate the Constitution?
  • justrick Thom Payne 2010/07/20 15:49:23
Please explain how the 4th Amendment, which guards against unreasonable searches and seizures, impacts this discussion.

Constitutional rights are extended to CITIZENS. If you are in this country illegally, you do not have any constitutional rights. Period dot ...
  • Mike Smith Buckeye... 2013/07/18 23:42:47

That's not true. Certain rights are exclusive to citizens, such as the right to vote and run for office, but Constitutional protections apply to all humans and courts have ruled as such.
