A house divided surely cannot stand, but as I look out at Sodahead and politics at large, I'm seeing less and less of "We, the people..." and more and more of "Us vs. you people!" Common-sense moderates who chose a political affiliation based on the majority of their beliefs are being voted out of office by in favor of extremists from both sides who espouse a message of total control and not cooperation. This is one of the many things that are contributing to the decline of our society and can see it hit bottom if we don't understand the merits of cooperation.
We live in an era where, now more than ever, our news sources are becoming custom-tailored to what we want to believe, not what may necessarily be the truth; thus creating a level of self-serving bias that enables us to believe what we want to believe and not necessarily what we should believe in. Because of this divisiveness, we are now pigeonholed into supporting views that may not be to the truth of what we believe is inherently right. For example, a person who is fundamentally pro-life on all levels is forced to choose between a political party that opposes abortion but supports capital punishment or a political party that opposes capital punishment but supports abortion. There doesn't seem a political party that genuinely wants to benefit everyone, just those who want to tilt the scales in one direction so we have this back-and-forth cycle that we have in terms of electing political leaders but no genuine or long-lasting resolution.
We can't do it without one another and no one ideology should be instituted if we are truly to remain free. China has one political party, is that the way we should should model ourselves? The Nazis rounded up all the communists and sent them to their execution, is that the solution for dealing with people of opposing viewpoints? Dogmatic thinking in either direction will hinder us from finding true solutions. No, you can't please everyone all of the time, but if you're interested in providing resolution in fairness, you'll have most of the people pleased most of the time.
So rave if you think we should stop focusing on our differences in a negative way and start focusing on them in a positive light. Rave if you think we should start focusing on how our differences can actually provide solutions. Rave if you think we lost our way along the way and rave if you think that cooperation will not only give us the image of a united front abroad, but also a united front at home. Rave if you have anything positive to say about the opposition and rave if you can suggest ways for us to stop arguing and start cooperating.
Otherwise, retreat back to the self-serving posts that only reinforce what you believe instead of challenging it. When it all comes crumbling down, you can continue to blame the other guy instead of yourself.

Even on SodaHead we may pick one candidate over the other and believe firmly in one ideal but I don't believe that the majority of us are so extreme that if a viable middle of the road candidate came out that We the People wouldn't choose that candidate if he was the best man for the job. That has been the problem with the elections of late we don't pick the best man or woman, we pick the lesser of two evils in our lives as we see them according to our views. With no viable third party candidate it comes down to extremism on either side and thus we turn to "your candidate is a turd" mentality.
Obama has a plan. The question is, is that plan in the best interest of the United States?
