And arrange at once for a consultation at a doctor - in case of a lesser affection. A breakdown - in general a nervous breakdown - usually affects both, the mind and the body. In case of depression, a proper medication and combined medical and psychological care are needed.

In case of an emergency, like a loss of conscience and in case of a shock, the patients should be brought directly to the hospital. In such cases, the diagnostic must be left to real professionals.

I have been through a mental breakdown so I know what to do. Give them a joint and a drink. Then let them vent for a few hours.

Take them to a Mental Hospital.
I would try to calm them down, then try to help and call someone who can help the person get better.

If it's serious enough call 911. Esp. if he or she was threatening suicide.

Hopefully I can keep him/her calm until I get professional help . If not I'm going to tie her/him up until I do depending on the severity of the break down .

Not really but there wasn't a "something else choice". So my answer to your question of " If you witnessed someone having a Mental Breakdown; what would you do?".......my answer would be ....VOTE HIS BUTT OUT IN NOVEMBER

Seriously though, I have had a close family member have a breakdown and it can be very hard not only on the person but the family also. We got through it by giving that person as much support as we could and helping them get help in dealing with their feelings and problems. The one thing I will say to anyone in this situation is to be sure that the person having the breakdown understands that many things can cause it (in my family members case it was due to a chemical imbalances in their body). Once we got them on medicines to regulate all of the various things our body makes to keep things in check they started getting better and back to the person we knew and loved. Also be sure that the person wants help and is comfortable with the form of help being offered. There are many avenues of help to deal with these type problems and success can be dependent upon the "right type of help" being offered.

Try to talk them down from the ledge and when the calm down suggest therapy. DO call 911 if they appear to want to hurt themselves or others.

I actually watched one. I'm a nurse and we had a patient that just went a little crazy. She was lying on the floor in a puddle of her own urine and acting like she was swimming. She would only let certain people touch her. If she saw a certain color she would freak out. All I can say is thank God for Ativan and Haldol. We got her pretty much sedated and back in bed and when she woke up she was her old self.

NONE OF THE ABOVE! I'd stay until they calmed down a lil before aproaching them. I know if someone did any of your choices to me when i was having a mental breakdown i would snap and probably punch them XD lol. Don't try to touch or tlk to someone when they get like that. Jus stay there til they calm down a lil bit. Generally one of the last stages is them breaking down in tears, thats the best time to aproach them and try to comfort them.

I know that I could have a mental breakdown. I want to try and stick by them. That's why I answered "maybe" to the question that asked "would you tolerate an abusive boyfriend".

Offer guidance and as much help as i could, yet I would set my limits to both give them time to think things through for themselves, without interrupting their peaceful state, and If they needed my help I would be there to provide it as well.

Slap them very hard with an open hand & sit them down. Give them a minute to get it together then offer them an ear.
Not to chew on... but you know, to talk to.
