I started my private sector small business Sept. 1, 2002. We just celebrated our 10th Anniversary. Today, we are some 60% of what we were in 2008, but still in business and I have never once missed making a payroll.

My federal, state, and local government did not do one thing to help me start it or help me keep my doors opened. NOT ONE THING! The moment I applied for a business license, I paid a fee first, and have been paying them constantly ever since with the constant reminder of additional fees and fines if I was ever late. I collect the state's sales tax for them at my cost, plus pay them a percentage of my hard earned revenues, and all I ask is "What have you done for me lately?"

That's the American entrepeneurial spirit!!

Our present business uses the roads and bridges that the government built and we also do work for various government entities. We did not rely on government business loans or things of that nature for our present business but have used the SBA loan process nearly 30 yrs ago to start one. Our employees were mostly public school trained for the basics, they need to work for us, the specialized ojt we are doing ourselves.

I would say that it is almost impossible to separate our business from government help and the work of our employees. I would have to say we built the business and had/have to rely on government and good employees to keep it going.

Unless you walk to work and don't use any government subsidized services such as utility companies, (oil,gas,electric,etc.), you don't use roads and bridges, and pay to educate your own employees from 1st grade on up you needed to have government help to build your business

What do you expect them to do, use their own money to build that stuff with no tax dollars?

The government enables construction by collecting revenue and distributing it.

The people enable construction. The government regulates it with the people's money.

Yea, that is what I said, the government collects revenue from the people and enables construction that way. I am sure the all the people aren't going to pass by and drop a dollar in the bucket at each construction site. It wouldn't work without government.

Today, most people who have a successful small business will tell you it is successful DESPITE THE GOVERNMENT. Of course, Obama wouldn't know anything about building a business --- just look at his 'green jobs' failures!

The theory that government helps build business by building roads, bridges and infrastructure is false. Most often those roads, bridges and other infrastructure are built after business has begun, in order to either take advantage of the commerce by way of taxes or directing the followup growth of an area growing around business.

The building of schools, except in controlled or command economys, has never been to benefit the growth of business or industry or to supply an educated working class for bussiness, but to provide the next generation access to better employement.

I many developed sites, such as housing developments or industrial parks, roads and needed infrastructure are built by the developer, then turned over to local government to maintain afterwards. Granted these roads ect, are build to the demanded standards of the local government.

It doesn't matter wether you are Bill Gates or own the corner deli, government has only impeded your business.

I succeed despite a crappy public school education.
If there weren't government highways the Free Market would have built them as there are private roads.
If there were roaming gangs of bandits people would arm themselves as they have in the past.

Just because politicians tell us that government hasto fund certain projects and services doesn't mean they will do it better than private business. In fact, most roads and highways are actually contracted by government to built that which government could not build.

So if it wasn't for business there'd be no government.

If I could open a business, I would; unfortunately, we have allowed this country to become the most anti-business country on earth.

Yes I ,with the help of my family,built that.I spent many years purchasing the equipment not to mention the time I put into learning the trade and building my reputation.The government had nothing to do with it.
I did not get one nickle from the government and I put a hefty chunk of my earnings into the roads and bridges I have accessed over the years in order to run my company.
Obama is a ridiculous fool and he needs to quit using joe biden and elizabeth warrens speech writers.

I listened several times and what his critics cite is exactly what he said!
There is no hesitation in his voice as he claims credit for every business success in the last 200+ years for the government.

Some people like immagrates get government grants to start their business, the public schools educate the workers. Business uses the roads. There are grants for research exc. But most small business people put in blood sweat and tears.

Hate to tell you but there was a time in this country were the people built the roads and bridges them self's. OH wait we did build those roads and bridges it is called taxes..Oh and by the I do own my own business and I be damn if any one helped me build it It started out with just Me now I employ 50 People But if THAT ONE gets reelected I will drop it to 48 because of Obama-care. Business chooses locations for doing business that have easy access, roads and bridges already built by city and state governments, water and electricity lines, telephone lines, and services from trash collection to sewer lines. I suppose there are a few corporations, like auto manufacturers that build large plants as big as small cities, bearing the brunt of the costs related to its needs. However, cities and states always provide incentives to lure them into building, like large tax cuts for years on end. I'd say that the vast majority of business relies modestly to heavily on others to help build their businesses, without exception. People who deny they had help are seriously ignorant morons with paranoid delusions.
