If you found yourself in a burning building, and had only enough time to save either a box containing 10 frozen embryos, or a 2 year old child with a broken leg, which would you save?

sgf 2010/03/08 01:14:35
You!

For people who claim that an embryo is a human life and you choose save the 2 year old instead, please explain why.

I would let the 2 year old burn to death because 2 year olds are irritating as hell.

What idiots! You have to grow weed. Unwanted fetuses are always available! I think I've just stumbled upon a great new business. I just need a business partner-- You want an illegal and well paying job, Eric?

I'll just say the two year old without a question and leave it at that. This is one of those questions I wouldn't usually answer, but I felt like it.

My instincts as a Captain would have me save the child. The rule hasn't been changed to "women, children, and embryos first" yet.

Frozen embryos are constantly discarded by cryogenic labs but so far there are no complaints about it. Good question.

Why not just cut the bullshit and say "I am pro choice, who is with me"? Instead of trying to be cryptic.

I didn't think I was being cryptic-- hey obviously you got it, so I'm sure most people would. I asked because pro-lifers always claim an embryo is a human life, and I disagree, so I wanted to know how they would respond to the posed hypothetical. My guess was that they woudn't, or couldn't. Thanks for confirming this.

I'm not sure a doctor should be considered a high-risk profession, at least it's not supposed to be. An elementary school crossing guard is probably a more dangerous profession than a doctor, even with the minor spate of abortion doctor muderers. So you wouldn't shed any tears for them, either?

I think, as a libertarian, you'd have to be pro-choice. It wouldn't make much sense to want to keep government involvement in personal lives to a minimum on one hand, and have the government force women to carry baby to term on the other.

I am pro choice, but if I am picking a person to have empathy for, an abortion doctor is not high on my list of priorities.

If you feel the need to hold candle light vigils for abortion doctors, then be my guest. [...] but I will support your choice to do it.

    Have fun.

Coincidentally, never talk to me about "freedom" and "choice" ever again. Your a god damn democrat. You lost the right to discuss such issues with me.

Bear in mind, in this case, that prioritizing something over another doesn't mean that the other thing is inhuman.

I would save a 40-year old woman before I saved an 80-year old man, and I would save an 8-year old before I saved the woman.

    Any day.
