Two Swiss workers could have had a great weekend if they didn't give the gold they found back to the police.

HAHAJK.COM reports:
A couple of maintenance workers in the Swiss town of Klingnau found gold in “them thar grass”!!! Behind some bushes – a place commonly reserved for kissing teens and a sexual deviant masturbating - the pair happened on a mysterious package wrapped in white paper.

If the find was significant, I'd first notify my lawyer and several local media to have them meet with me at the site so the lawyer could witness the transfer and insist on a receipt, the media record it from the police's arrival through departure. Most community laws have dates by which the found item is returned to the finder if the items are not claimed and not considered contraband.

Communities usually have disclosure laws mandating that found items valued over a certain amount be reported to the police; also reportable are certain types of items - i.e. weapons such as handguns, and substances that could pose a health risk, and so on.

I wouldn't feel comfortable using that gold. Plus, it's not a gift from someone nor is it something I earned. It could be stolen property or lost by someone. But I wouldn't hand it over to the police. At least not the ones in the US. Maybe people trust the police more in Switzerland. If I can't find the owner maybe donate it?

Sure, they trust the police there - and it was in the newspapers. Up to now, no owner was found, and there is no indication that the gold was stolen. Its value is 103'000 Euro. The whole story looks like a mystery. If no owner is found within 5 years, the two workers will receive the gold or its value in money.
