If you do not support Gay marriage does it automatically make you "homophobic"?

Consider the definition of phobic: Phobic: suffering from irrational fear.

Does disliking or thinking that a behavior is wrong translate to being afraid of it? I think not. I think homophobia is actually rare. A truly homophobic person would be afraid to the point of interfering with their life.

A phobia (from the Greek: φόβος, Phóbos, meaning "fear" or "morbid fear") is, when used in the context of clinical psychology, a type of anxiety disorder, usually defined as a persistent fear of an object or situation in which the sufferer commits to great lengths in avoiding, typically disproportional to the actual danger posed, often being recognized as irrational. In the event the phobia cannot be avoided entirely the sufferer will endure the situation or object with marked distress and significant interference in social or occupational activities.[1]

I think the term homophobic is a term used by homosexuals to try to paint people who are behaving in a normal fashion as mentally ill or irrational.

Marriage is a right, you either believe in all rights granted to everyone or you believe in no rights at all.

Yes if you oppose gay marriage you are homophobic.

    Homosexuality:
    1. Marriage between a man and a man.
    2. Marriage between a woman and a woman.

Is not marriage between a person and an animal
    Is not marriage between siblings
Is not marriage the dead and the living
Is not marriage to an inanimate object

If you are homophobic (afraid of gays) you may have had a bad past experience with someone who's gay. But that doesn't mean that they're all bad.

You may have a biased opinion towards homosexuality, which is more like a one-sided belief about it. It's either you decided one day that you hate gays or you were raised to hate them.

Or you are really gay yourself and you don't want to admit it because
    1. You were either raised to hate homosexuals
    2. Hate ALL homosexuals because of a passed experience (not just that one homosexual) but all
    3. Or decided one day that you hate ALL OF THEM because of 1 & 2.

Nobody of any creed, race, or orientation is completely wrong. Sure rape, murder, terrorism, genocide, & stealing is wrong, but anyone can commit those crimes)

    But that's beside the point.
We all have a right to be here and be who we want to be.

Not supporting gay marriage does not make you homophobic. I personally don't support it, but it does not mean that I have an irrational fear of gays. It's just my personal belief.

    Other choices, please. :-)

One can even be against gay marriage and still be pro-gay unions. Moreover, one can be against gay marriage but not want government involved in the issue in any way whatsoever. Then, too, one can not recognize the government's power to give permission for ANY kind of union.

It is morally wrong to oppose same-sex marriage. It's unconstitutional to ban marriage based on one's sexuality. Most anti-gay people do fear homosexuality, and believe that it destroys 'traditional values'.

First of all, I think people take the term "homophobic" too literally. It doesn't neccessarily mean that someone is afraid of homosexuals, just that he or she has an irrational aversion or bias toward them. I think heterosexualist is a more appropriate term.

As for not supporting gay marriage, everyone is entitled to their opinion. However that doesn't mean that you can infringe on other peoples' rights. If you don't support gay marriage, then don't have one and don't attend any gay weddings. But don't deny that right to gay couples just because you have a problem with homosexuality. It's not your life or your marriage, so butt out and mind your own business.

Absolutely Not! I am not "against" gay marriage but I do believe God created marriage to be shared between a man and a woman. That's just my belief. But that does not make me homophobic. My best friend is gay and I love him like a brother. So whoever thinks this way is completely wrong, because its not everyone.

Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, religion or sexual orientation have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution. Love is a human Right.
The right of adults to enter into consensual marriage is enshrined in America's human rights standards. Gays shouldn't be treated as second class citizens.

You said Men and women of full age, without.... (you know what you said). How does that exclude people who are related.

No. I do not. I believe humans are capable of controlling themselves. I personally have never had an urge to commit incest, but your own statement does not exclude them. Why are you now changing that.

  • ☆ElenaD... FRED 2012/07/15 23:50:24

Why? That is how I feel about gay marriage and incest.

If the incest is between two consenting adults, who love each other, and there is no coercion, what can your possible objection be?
  • FRED ☆ElenaD... 2012/07/16 00:04:52
    FRED
Not the same. I would not support an incestuous gay marriage either.
  • ☆ElenaD... FRED 2012/07/16 00:07:22
    ☆ElenaDiamond☆
It is the same. There is no reasonable reason to oppose it IF YOU HONESTLY believe that we have no business interfering in relationships between adults.
  • FRED ☆ElenaD... 2012/07/16 01:27:54
    FRED
No, is not the same. I agree there is no reasonable reason to oppose it. However, I support, approve and accept straight and gay marriages, as long they aren't incestuous.
  • ☆ElenaD... FRED 2012/07/16 01:39:16
    ☆ElenaDiamond☆
Ah, then would you be exactly the same as someone who simply opposes gay marriage?

At least you aren't a hypocrite. You KNOW what I am saying is right. There is NO argument to oppose incest or even polygamy.
  • FRED ☆ElenaD... 2012/07/16 01:52:48

I do not oppose incest nor polygamy, but I do not support them either; I just accept them. It's like I do not support abortion but I am pro-choice. Get it
