1937: Flush from his big victory in the 1936 elections Democrat President Franklin D. Roosevelt decided to become the king of America. He asked the newly elected and overwhelmingly Democrat Congress to add new liberal judges to the Supreme Court so he trample the Constitution without restraint. Afraid of the political consequences the Democrats said NO. Nevertheless, the country got a glimpse of the real Roosevelt and knew they had to stop him. The Democrats lost about 60 seats in 1938.
