If Romney didn't pay his taxes, why is the IRS not going after him? The IRS would be going after him, especially with someone as wealthy as he is. Instead, we have Harry Reid telling us the word is out. This is Obama's campaign? I could run it better.

No one has accused Mitt Romney of breaking any laws by paying no taxes despite millions in income if that's in fact what happened. That's what the Republicans have turned the tax code into - a haven for the rich to allow them to pay less than their secretaries in taxes with deductions and legal evasions that people who don't make millions a year can't take advantage of.

    Good question.

If he has not filed and paid every dollar owed, prosecute and jail him.

If he has paid no tax, ask Congress members, who make the tax laws, why they exist.

Then ask Congress members if they use those laws, why they made those laws, and for whom.

Romney hasn't drawn a paycheck in over 10 years, so it's very likely he has paid no taxes or very little. Also, he has his big bucks parked offshore. Romney has big ticket lawyers that have found many loopholes for Romney. He can live here and enjoy our great country but expects the middle class to pick up taxes for infrastructure, airports, etc.... all of which he enjoys, too.

If elected, he will be the wealthiest President ever who also has done the very least to help the country. What a very small man he is... nothing at all like his dad.

Then it's a really good thing that John Kerry lost then huh??? He has already been taxed on that money period, He could take it and bury it in the back yard if he so desired. The only way the Government can get their hands on it is if he dies then they take what 50% of moneys he has already been taxed. We need those funds invested. Have you ever checked out the Cayman Isles?? and tried to start a business in the US??? That's why they go to off shore accounts along with everyone else in the government starting with Kerry and Pelosi on down. What a joke.

John Kerry served his country in time of war,was wounded three times, and awarded the silver star for bravery fighting against communism. Rush and the rest of the combat coward patriots tore him down saying he got a purple heart he did not deserve.NO member of the Romney family has EVER served nor has ANY member of the Romney famile ever given more to his country than they were forced to.

You're quite a dim bulb, huh? Not PAYING is not the same as NOT FILING. Reid never said Mitt didn't FILE his taxes. He said he hasn't PAID ANY. That means Romney paid an effective tax rate of ZERO after 'deductions.'

Neither Harry's statements or Mitt's Statements have been proven true or false. All that is true is Mitt is hiding his returns.

Reid's comments are doing exactly what they are intended to do. To keep the topic of Romney's Tax Returns in the media and in everyone's mind. Its working and you Conservatives are falling for it Hook, Line and Sinker.

Harry could care less what you think about him. He's ready to retire anyway and will probably do so when his term is up. His remarks certainly have everyone in an outrage.. and that serves as the reminder that Mitt has not provided his returns.

I think the point is he put nothing in this country just withdrawals . He didn't have to pay any tax . Same GE did . The only one keeping this country going is the middle whats left of them and still the rich and poor want more from them .

If I am not mistaken, Republicans have held the House for only eight of the last twenty years. And the Senate for less than that. Granted, Republicans are sneekey, but even so if they had done all of that fliping the tax code around to favor the Rich, why didn't Democrats flip it back when they took over? They had four years with both House's, and two of those were under Obama's Administration, why wasn't that one of the things they fixed in "08 or '09?

Come to think of it, Democrats held Congress for 40 years previousely to 1994, so didn't they write most of the tax code? Did those dastardly Republicans re-write the whole tax code and get it passed when Clinton was in office? Surely not while Bush was in office, too many Democrats were looking over his shoulder for him to get away with that.

When 59 votes out of 100 are a "minority" it's a little difficult to get anything passed. However, I will concede that Congressional Democrats have hardly been exemplary in their efforts to keep things fair, either. Right now Congress is as disfunctional as it probably has ever been, and partisanship aside, I think both parties should agree that after this election, no matter who wins, they will introduce a Constitutional amendment providing for Congressional term limits! They can grandfather themselves in if they must, but this country cannot survive for very long with career politicians increasingly beholden to secret moneyed interests the way they are now.

Now I will gladly agree with you on the disfunction of Congress. Even as a bill needs a Presidents signature to be legal, it is Congress who crafts those bills.

I would like to see a law enacted making full discloser of members of Congress' finances. I believe it is too easy for them to make laws that they benefit from.

We need to talk about Romney and his taxes because we need to highlight the fact that very wealthy people in the USA are not paying a fair share of the tax burden. They have enough money to hire whole companies that manage their wealth to such an extent that the loop holes protect them from liability. Overseas bank accounts and tax sheltered money is just not available to people who get a paycheck from a company. People like Mitt Romney do not need to work a job. Their money is out there working for them and doubling all the time. His ambition to be President is just the icing on the cake for him. Having accumulated wealth he now wants to get into the history books by any means possible. What is the man's ideology? Do you know? Does anyone? The answer is, "No" because he does not have one other than being in the limelight. For 20 years all he has done is lay the groundwork for himself. He craves the White House like a drug. Maybe he wants to be bigger than his father. Maybe there was some rivalry there. Whatever, he is never going to be the upstanding citizen his father was. George Romney had character but Mitt has none.

Both issues are relevant and both ARE being talked about - what Romney is hiding, why he is so secretive about his past, whether he started Bain Capital with Salvadoran drug money, whether he lied to the SEC or to the American public about when he actually left Bain Capital, all of these go into the legitimate questions the American public has as to what is really behind Romney's "success" as a businessman. At the same time the President and the Democrats have been talking about the economy, about the four and a half million jobs that have been created so far, about the numerous other job creation proposals that are sitting and gathering dust in Congress due to Republican obstructionism, including the American Jobs Act, which would create another two and a half million jobs, and about how Republicans' attacks on public sector workers have the unemployment rate a full point higher than it otherwise would be, which is especially relevant since Romney has said he wants to cut more police, fire and teachers' jobs if he's elected.
