And the Red Cross said were doing an exemplary job up there! But the people are saying they're living like animals. And obama is taking bows for doing such a good job!!!

FEMA and the Government will never, no matter how well they respond, be able to prevent every single bad outcome from a storm the size of Sandy. It's just not possible. They can at best minimize the damage and get infrastructure back up and running more quickly. Which they did, and props to people on BOTH sides of the aisle for doing so.

Also, there's a pretty big hint in the, 'Fox News". How many of those callers do you think blame Obama for creating the hurricane, and are angry that a record breaking storm that we probably havn't seen the likes of since '39 has left them unable to charge there cell phones for a few days? Expecting complete avoidance of all damage is just asanine. This is a raw force of nature here. Damage was minimized, responded to quickly, and the people effected have been kept fed, clothed, and sheltered. The alternative? Good luck surviving in New York if you need something to survive , and can't help someone turn a profit in getting it.

I so agree! I've always felt like in the wake of a natural disaster I'm on my own. But they would NEVER put me in the concentration camps because I wouldn't live like that. And don't any of those who are homeless have relatives who could take them in temporarily..........

It's sad, because I WANT a reasonable Republican party advocating rational spending reductions and being leery of taxes against anyone. I want a proverbial wet blanket keeping my perspective down to earth, and challenging me at every opportunity. It's unfortunate they the only rational opposition I can find is (Usually) from fellow Democrats playing devils advocate. That's not the kind of discourse that will test my opinions and ultimately bring us forward.

The problem is very simple you have a delusional belief that government is benevolent when it is not, ambivalent at best and malevolent in most cases. Gov. Cuomo yells at the power companies because they ran out of poles. It takes 6 months to make a pole, why because of EPA regulations, why because you can't use Cresote but copper products but if they leak solution there is a fine and cleanup charge to the power company which is hefty courtesy of the same EPA. So we have a Liberal Democratic Governor yelling at a power company which is following Liberal Democratic EPA regulations instead of yelling at Washington waive the damn regs to save my people but earthworms are more important. I learned those regs from a power company employee when they had to install a new pole about 7 years ago on my land. Wonderful place America.

Yeah, that really ticked me off. I work in EMS. When natural disasters occur, we don't close. That's when we're needed the most. We work, we adapt, we find a way to do our jobs and help people.
What if you called 911 and received a recording that stated that the board was closed "due to weather"?
Then again, we're crazy. When people are screaming and stuff is on fire we run TOWARDS the problem.

Thank you. FEMA is a perfect example of a great idea ruined by the government. Before they so much as turned a wheel toward the site they should have been in contact with someone there and gotten some intel regarding the scope of need.
They should have been mobilized within a couple of hours loaded with temporary shelters, generators, etc.
They take too long, they don't bring adequate supplies, and they don't bring the personnel needed to cope with the situation.
In short, too many butts in chairs pushing paper, not enough boots on the ground assisting.
