If Mr Cain was to gain the presidency what are the chances his 999 plan would get through congress?.

Is it his 999 plan again? For awhile there, it was his 9-0-9 plan. Economists on both sides of the aisle have looked at it and given it a thumbs down. Ditto for his ridiculous Chilean plan for Social Security. That plan didn't work in Chile, a country 1/32 the size of the USA. The joke in Chile was, " When you retire, you get poor". Brazil and Argentina tried it briefly and dumped it.

Herman Cain will not be President. It has nothing to do with his groping hand problem, he is clueless about just about everything other than the pizza business. In the last debate, every time he said 999 in that nasal voice, the audience laughed. Cost of bread too high... 999 will take care of it. Russians getting too frisky again.... 999 will handle them. Pipeline running through Nebraska a problem---- try 999 for that. China might provoke a trade war.... no problem, 999 to the rescue.

congress will need to accept the plan and pass it. not seeing the support for it today in either house, it is possible the the plan will get some support in the house but will never see a vote in the senate. i like most are unsure if it will help or hurt the middle class. he at least offered a plan showing he is serious about the issue and hope others follow his lead

In part yes, because its a start. Does it need to be modified? You bet. Does he know it? Of course. Everything starts somewhere. Lets face it we need a new start. We need jobs. Our children deserve a good education. I am already retired and the generations following me must have guaranteed Social Security adjusted for what their cost of living will be.

social security muist be what you paid into it nothing more nothing less.

tell me how does 9-9-9 creates a better education system, or jobs. yes lower taxes is the first step in creating jobs but it is not the only one needed.

Yes,lowering taxes creates jobs which in turn creates employer taxes and contributions towards education. Jobs mean people can afford to purchase homes and pay teal estate taxes, a portion of which also goes to education. Now for Social Security. When our elected officials see that they can operate a government WITHOUT constantly raiding Social Security ( which they never intend to pay back ) like taking 500 billion dollars out to start funding obamacare future retirees will have Social Security .

lowering taxes is only one step that can lead to job creation. if there is no demand for the products made no new jobs. if adding jobs cuts into the profits of the company no new jobs. so stop trying to stay if we cut taxes jobs will just appear

Yes, because obama and the democrats have done such a wonderful job.
I remember that days of when people had jobs, houses, cars and could afford gas for those cars. But, those were the days when we had a republican president and a republican majority in congress.
You probably still erroneously blame the ultra minority TEA party for our credit downgrade.

Can Cain's plan get through Congress? Most of his plan already has Congressional Cosponsors!

Cain's 999 plan is just Step I in a two step proposal. Step II is abolishing the 9% flat income taxes on individuals & business, and replaces it with ONLY a sales tax on new goods and services while exempting purchases of used goods, investments, tuition and "B-to-B" transactions. By abolishing all taxes on income and profits, all the embedded taxes that inflates the price of everything we buy today, goes away. With those hidden taxes gone, prices would come down. Add back the national sales tax and most items would sell for around what they did before. And you pay for them with untaxed earnings. The name of this existing bill is "The Fair Tax Act of 2011"

Unlike every tax reform proposal by the other GOP Presidential Wannabees, Herman Cain's Step II is an existing bill (HR-25/S-13) that is already in Congress,

HR-25/S-13 already has been approved in committee hearings in the House Ways & Means Committee and currently has almost SIX DOZEN congressional BIPARTISAN cosponsors.

It's promoters are now waiting for a President that would sign the bill into law once it clears the general floor vote in the House and passes the Senate.

HR25 was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee almost a year ago and was abandoned. It was replaced by S-13, which had a whopping total of EIGHT cosponsors, on January 25, 2011 and referred to the House Committee on Finance. It is also abandoned. http://www.govtrack.us/congre...

HR-25 currently has 66 cosponsors according to Thomas.gov (link above)
Status: "Referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means."

No mention of the bill being Abandoned.

Adding your link's 8 cosponsors for a total of 74 cosponsors... so I was wrong... its MORE than SIX DOZEN cosponsors. Thanks for the correction, Fawkes!

LMAO are you dense? HR25 is dead. There is no HR 25 and there are no 66 cosponsors anymore. S-13 haD 8 cosponsors. S-13 is abandoned.

And you left out this part: "The majority of bills and resolutions never make it out of committee."

    ...and

"See the Related Legislation page for other bills related to this one and a list of subject terms that have been applied to this bill. Sometimes the text of one bill or resolution is incorporated into another, and in those cases the original bill or resolution, as it would appear here, would seem to be abandoned."

"LMAO"... I'm glad you find this so entertaining. The most recent new cosponsors (HR-25) was added just last September. Not bad for a bill that has been "abandoned"

    Here's the list for S-13

COSPONSORS(8), BY DATE [order is left to right]: (Sort: alphabetical order)
Sen Isakson, Johnny [GA] - 1/25/2011
Sen Moran, Jerry [KS] - 1/25/2011
Sen Burr, Richard [NC] - 1/25/2011
Sen Coburn, Tom [OK] - 1/25/2011
Sen DeMint, Jim [SC] - 1/25/2011
Sen Cornyn, John [TX] - 3/30/2011
    Sen Inhofe, James M. [OK] - 6/6/2011
    Sen Lugar, Richard G. [IN] - 6/6/2011

Note the latest additions were June 6th for this "abandoned" bill..

S-13 is in the Senate Committee on Finance. The Senate Committee on Finance is chaired by Democrat Max Baucus and Democrats hold the majority of seats including John Kerry, Chuck Schumer and John Rockefeller. The bill will never make it out of Committee.

    LMAO You're clueless.

Typical LibProg... using a static analysis to judge a dynamic process.

If we are discussing how a potential future POTUS can push through legilation, the make-up and status of the current senate has little bearing on the outcome of a bill that would be supported by that hypothetical POTUS.

If the assumption is that the new president would support a bill, the same assumption would be needed for having a congress that would act on that bill. Otherwise, we would need a POTUS with the character of Ronald Reagan to go around Congress and appeal to the legislative body's constituents directly... especially if that constituency had just elected him on a platform that included such proposed reform legislation.

If you can't follow along with the dialog of this thread, Fawkes...maybe you need to take notes.

"HR25 was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee almost a year ago and was abandoned. It was replaced by S-13"

Fawkes, how does a House bill (HR) get "replaced by" a Senate bill ("S")???

Either a bill passes the house or if fails the house... it doesn't get "replaced" by a bill that is in another legislative body.

Bottom line is that Cain has endorsing & supporting existing legislation while the others are simply pulling stuff out of their rectal-crainial inversion.

Joe, you are right. Years of research has already gone into development of Cain's ultimate tax reform proposal. In fact, that's why Cain's plan CURRENTLY has almost six dozen cosponsors in the House and almost a dozen cosponsors in the Senate... and these cosponsors include both Dems and GOP. Check out HR-25/S-13 on Thomas.gov and see for yourself.
