Personally, I believe everyone should contribute to the national coffer. It is amazing the difference in attitude when someone has some skin in the game.
And the federal government's budget will only sink the middle class, and this country by drowning us in debt. We will never pay as long as the government keeps spending the way it is.
Yes, there is a cure for stupid. It's called EDUCATION however, the ReTHUGnicans want to deny it to anyone who doesn't have the funds to attend their private, ELITE schools.
Thirteen thousand ain't a lot of money. Have you ever tried living on less than $8,000 a year?
And the Middle Class is doing just so swell under the administration of Barack Obama!
He said if the economy did not turn around he would be a one term President.
Good!
I mean to hold him to his word.
Put aside partisan politics and ask yourself as I have, can the country go another four years of continued social divide and a stagnant government. Since I and you can not fire the whole or even a majority of Congress something needs to be changed. If you're satisfied with the current state of affairs, then by all means support the candidate of your choice.
Why do you think John Boehner & the rest of the Republicans only use the words "Job Creators" when the subject of taxes comes up? They say if you increase taxes the "Job Creators" won't be able to "afford" to create jobs. If that was true than how come so many jobs were created when Bill Clinton had a slightly higher tax rate? Since Bush signed the tax cuts the only jobs that have been created are in Asia, NOT America.
Yes, we need systemic changes in this country. David Stockman recently went so far as to say in an interview that Reaganomics has been disastrous to this country. He was Reagan's Budget Director. We can't cut our way to prosperity. We need increased revenues. Unfortunately every Republican on Capitol Hill has signed Grover Norquists "No Tax Increase" pledge.
Do you know that President Obama has gone so far as to say he would support a lowering of the corporate rate IF ALL loopholes were closed?...

Do you know that President Obama has gone so far as to say he would support a lowering of the corporate rate IF ALL loopholes were closed? The Republicans won't even go for that. The reason why is because Mitch McConnell said as soon as Obama won the election that his #1 priority was to make Obama a 1-term president. The economy is stagnant because they have stonewalled every proposal to get the economy in better shape.
I don't know where you are getting 6 years from. If you think Romney is gonna make things better, you've got another think coming. Romney is gonna be a puppet president for the power players that have been bought off in Congress.
Your understanding of the economics of the US is a bit on the weak side.
..A worker in 1900 labored 2 hours & 40 minutes to earn the cost of a 3 pound chicken; in 1999 a mere 24 minutes of toil could buy him the bird.
..In 1950, typical workers put in more than 2 hours to afford 100 kilowatts of electricity; by 1999, the cost had dropped to 14 minutes.
"the middle class lost more"
..Really!? The Median income group in 1967 had an income of $8,303. By 2010 the same group had an income of $61,735. Hardly losing ground! Even accounting for inflation is still more income by some $8,126 or nearly a years pay from 1967.
..The only tent cities I have seen belong to OWS, they don't really count. Jobs moved to China? Want them to come home? Get your Congress critters to support the FairTax.
If my understanding of economics is weak, yours is on life support.
"The following are facts about persons defined as “poor” by the Census Bureau, taken from a variety of government reports:
46 percent of all poor households actually own their own homes. The average home owned by persons classified as poor by the Census Bureau is a three-bedroom house with one-and-a-half baths, a garage, and a porch or patio.
80 percent of poor households have air conditioning. By contrast, in 1970, only 36 percent of the entire U.S. population enjoyed air conditioning.
Only six percent of poor households are overcrowded; two thirds have more than two rooms per person.
The typical poor American has more living space than the average individual living in Paris, London, Vienna, Athens, and other cities throughout Europe. (These comparisons are to the average citizens in foreign countries, not to those classified as poor.)
Nearly three quarters of poor households own a car; 31 percent own two or more cars.
97 percent of poor households have a color television; over half own two or more color televisions.
78 percent have a VCR or DVD player.
62 percent have cable or satellite TV reception.

As a group, America’s poor are far from being chronically undernourished. The average consumption of protein, vitamins, and minerals is virtually the same for poor and middle-class children and, in most cases, is well above recommended norms. Poor children actually consume more meat than do higher-income children and have average protein intakes 100-percent above recommended levels. Most poor children today are, in fact, super-nourished and grow up to be, on average, one inch taller and ten pounds heavier than the GIs who stormed the beaches of Normandy in World War II."
